iCloud Photo Library Beta Resolution of Video/Photo

I also noticed this and would love to know why the full 1920 hd resolution is not downloaded from web interface. I really hope it's just because of beta.

Bug: only edited photos are uploaded full res from IOS !

I *think* they are being uploaded at full resolution and only downloaded at a lower res. When I upload a photo and check the amount of online storage I am using, it increases by something much closer to the full size of the photo than the downloaded version.

I took a photo which shows as 1.7MB in Windows. The downloaded version was 900KB. iCloud showed that I was using 1.4MB for it. Maybe they are using some extra compression?

Hopefully the non-beta version will allow full res download (and hopefully iCloud for Windows will support it correctly too by then 😉 ).

Thanks, but I can't see anything there that says photos downloaded using the web interface are at a lower resolution, or have I missed it?

It certainly says that the iCloud Photo Library should contain full res images. However, given the above, I think some were unsure if it really was (due to bug or design).

There is a choice in your Settings where you set up "iCloud Photo Library" (the slide switch) ... and on that screen you have the choice for having an optimized version of your photo or the full resolution of your photo. I have it set on mine for the full resolution.

We weren't talking about that though. We were talking about downloading from the icloud.com beta site to a PC/MAC. We were expecting to get the full res images (useful for editing/cropping etc.) but instead only get significantly smaller resampled versions.

As I said earlier though. I do think the problem is in the downloading to PC, not the upload from iDevice.

When you download to your PC are you using a specific "download button" for the image -- or are you downloading the image that shows up in your browser?

Pressing the download button. In Chrome trying to right-click and save image crashes the browser!

I'm thinking that to download the picture as presented by how the browser shows it to you is not the same thing as a specific download button which is intended to give you an original version (i.e., full resolution) and NOT what is displayed to you.

Yep, I could understand if that were to happen. But the download button itself seems to bring down a re sampled, smaller version of the original.

I've just noticed this today. Same picture on phone 1.3 mb...icloud .875 mb. Download from icloud to PC and Mac .875 mb. I don't think this is working as intended. Guess that's why they are calling it "Beta" lol. I'm going to leave feedback about it.

Here's the tthing on a download button ... if that button is a functionality of the browser itself (it was designed as part of the browser) then your going to get what the browser itself is showing you. On the other hand, if the download button is a design of the website you are accessing, then you will get a full size version. At least that's what I think ... :-) ...

That's the point. It is not working that way. i am clicking the download button on the iCloud Photos page (Apple icon of a cloud with a down arrow coming from it) and I get a re sampled image. I assume that is what the others are doing too.

This thread, although about video, seems to confirm my findings - stuff is uploaded at full res, but iCloud.com is resampling on download, for some reason: BEWARE: iCloud Photo Library COMPRESSES your video. Not 1:1 copies.
