Why do my SMTP/IMAP/POP servers keep going offline in OS X Yosemite Mail app?

I have a MacBook Pro from summer of 2011 and just upgraded to OS X Yosemite. Now my Mail app keeps taking the servers offline randomly and keeps it can't reconnect. I can fix it by quitting the app, shutting my computer, and then opening it and restarting the app, but if someone has a permanent fix that would be much appreciated.

I've gone into the accounts and made sure the information was correct, reentered it, etc. And I think the port numbers are correct (I changed them but that didn't help anything). I've also repaired my Keychain because that seemed to cause problems in previous OS versions.

Everything else on my computer still logs in and accepts the passwords (so far), it's just the Mail app that broke. And it was working great until I upgraded to Yosemite.

FYI in case someone is listening, I updated to 10.11.4 that was released today, and it's been working without interruption since this morning.

10.10.5 Yosemite

This has been stable for ages now on my MBP running 10.10.5,.... until today! Now servers are frequently and constantly refusing to send, dispite an active connection unless the wifi connection is switched on (normally hardwired).

I haven't changed or installed anything, so what's going on? Notice there's an update in the App store so will backup/apply and see what happens.

Patience with Apple continues to wear thin.

It's really bugging me too.

I seem to have the problem ONLY when using an Airport Extreme AC and only on OSX.

No problems with iPhones on the same basestation.

It's intermittent, so very hard to isolate. If I reset the interface or wifi it will come back for a few minutes sometimes, and other times for the rest of the day.

Sometimes it will be stable for a few days and then become unstable several times during a day.

I can't find a pattern and there are no errors in the console.

Nice try but this did not work for me. I'm convinced that mail app is bugged so I'm not using it any more as Im fed up trying to fix it.
