Hay guys, I think I found a way to get your Ipad back and running without losing anything!!!

*(you don't have to recover, you just use the program to reboot your Ipad... and it reboots like normal! 😀

- Just go on this link "http://www.recovery-android.com/recover-iphone-ipad-ipod-data.html"

- Download for Windows or Mac

- Open it up, (you wont have to recover!)

- They will tell you that your Ipad is on whatever-mode and that you have to restart, so just click on the "restart" button on the program and it will restart you Ipad like normal without any data loss!!

Really hope it works for you guys!

Worked for me! 😝

I just had the same issue when installing the 8.1 update on my iPad 2. The solution I found that worked for me was to uninstall iTunes from my PC and then download and reinstall the latest version of iTunes. After doing this I was able to get an option to Restore OR Update. When I picked the update it downloaded the update and finally installed it successfully. My iPad seems to be back to normal now without losing a thing. I'll be much more cautious next time I think about running a "simple" update.

I followed ivizzle's method of holding both the On/Off button and the Home button simultaneously. The frozen Apple logo screen went away, then came back - I continued holding both buttons, Then, the screen showed the iTunes red logo with the wide power cord beneath it. I let go the buttons and plugged my ipad 2 into my laptop with iTunes. Then, I was prompted to restore and update (forced to accept ios 8.1.1 update which tells you you will lose all data, but can restore all after the update). 53 minutes to go. If I can't restore all my stuff, I will be back with a vitriolic posting. Crossing fingers. I hope not to be back here. If I don't post anything else, then it worked.

P.S. 2 Techies told me to dump FB and its messenger. 1st thing i will do if/when it finishes updating. FB is not Apple-friendly.

OOkay my ipad2 completed the update with zero issuesa few weeks ago..... However today I realized my wife had not updated her ipad2 so I decided to update it for her and after the reboot it was stuck like everyone else was talking about on this forum but I did get it working without a restore... Maybe it was the time I gave it but I did leave it sit for about 2 hours thinking it was just having a lil hic up in the system. I then realized while play borderlands pre squeal that it still was stuck on that screen. So I held the power and home button to turn it off, next I held the power button to turn it back on and bam worked just fine no restore. Try that before holding the power and home key again to reset maybe try more than once might save you some serious frustration.

This worked for me..... From Ivizzle's post

I ended up doing was holding the power button and home button down at the same time. the screen eventually went dark, and I thought the apple logo would cycle back on like always, but nothing happened. I didn't let go of the two buttons. TheN eventually I realized the iPad had turned off. I let go then I pressed the power button again. The apple logo appeared, but it booted up normally this time.

MY iPad is now running on ios8.1 and appears to work fine. I have no idea what I did, or why it worked. but I thought I would share in case it helps anyone else. I didn't have to restore

You reset your iPad using the standard method

Perhaps reading this will help you understand restarting and resetting your iPad

I also got the freeze but managed to work through it. A few thoughts:

First thing I did when the screen got stuck was hold down the power and home keys until the iPad restarted. A message saying I had to plug into the computer came up, so that's what I did.

After firing up iTunes and plugging in the iPad, I went ahead and Updated instead of Restore. This process took FOREVER. At least an hour or more. I was tempted to once again do a hard restart but I'm glad I waited.

After cycling through the update, my iPad screen finally came back and I had to go through the setup steps. This resulted in the iPad restarting again (normal) and doing another type of install. This also took quite a bit of time but again I was presented with the setup screen when it was done.

I completed the setup and crossed my fingers that all the apps would be there.

Lo and behold, everything was there!

I think many, many times people get frustrated and restart - but the best thing to do is WALK AWAY for up to a couple of hours if necessary. iOS updates have never been a quick thing, and this time was no exception.

Hope this helps!

There is hope.

My iPad mini got frozen about 90% through the install of IOS 8.1.2 . I had no functionality and could not power off to reset. Disaster. Naighty swear words, cursing the name of Apple - particularly when I read some of the earlier comments.

Well, dear reader, I unplugged it, and let it discharge overnight. The plugged in again, and Lo! The install completed in seconds. Nothing lost. All good. But could have done without the heart stopper. And why does it have to take up 5.5 GB??? A bit crap on a 16GB iPad. I wouldn't have installed it except I need it for the GoPro App.
