Bluetooth isn't working with my BMW
i thought that io 8.1 was supposed to resolve the Bluetooth connection issues but I still can't connect to my car. I have a BMW...is it them, or me, or Apple? And how was this never checked???

I have a 2015 BMW X1 M Sport and an iPhone 6 running iOS 8.1. The pairing process worked, I can use bluetooth for iPhone calls but NOT to listen to music. Bluetooth audio does not work at all even though the iPhone is listed in the BMW bluetooth audio devices list.
As an FYI, with my 2015 BMW M3:
iPhone 5s with iOS 7 - no issues whatsover
iPhone 6 Plus with iOS 8:
Phone calls work fine. Launching the Music app on the phone and tapping on play to stream via bluetooth to the car sometimes works sometimes not. Selecting a song thru iDrive from my iTunes library rarely works - the song is selected but play never starts. If I unpair/pair the phone it will work a couple of times then stops.

Phone calls work fine. Launching the Music app on the phone and tapping on play to stream via bluetooth to the car now works reliably. However just as with iOS 8.0 selecting a song thru iDrive from my iTunes library rarely works - the song is selected but play never starts. If I unpair/pair the phone it will work a couple of times then stops.
So the only difference I see from 8.0 and 8.1 is that when starting to play music from the phone itself I am now able to reliably stream it to the car. But all the fancy stuff in iDrive that lets me select songs and playlists is completely useless as after selecting a song I'm unable to play it.
Bluetooth worked fine with my 2007 Lexus. Just got a 2015 Lincoln MKC with Sync. I can get phone audio only by pressing "Sync" on the iPhone for every call - incoming or outgoing. Dealer says he has synced many iphones with no problem. I ckd with Verizon; I have uptodate latest IOS, and all is functioning on iPhone. Lincoln Sync Support suggested resetting network settings in the iPhone. If I do that, what else will that affect?
FYI what fixed this for me, after updating to 8.1, was first to remove the car from the list of paired devices on the iPhone, then going to Settings - General - Reset Network Settings. I then removed the iPhone ferm the list of phones in iDrive, and re-paired again. I had tried this procedure with iOS 8 without success, but with 8.1 so far it seems to have worked.
Just picked up 2015 BMW X5 xDrive35i. Running iOS 8.1 on iPhone 6 (and was the day I took delivery of vehicle... 4 days ago). Paired and used iPhone over BT flawlessly to both make calls and stream audio from my phone. One glitch yesterday or Sunday (can't remember) where X5 didn't auto-pair with my phone at vehicle start-up (even though phone was still "recognized" by the vehicle). Quickly had both "forget" each other, then re-paired, no issue.
Today, everything's gone to chaos like Iraq and Syria under IS. Not only does the X5 not acknowledge the iPhone for the purposes of music streaming (although it says in the "Multimedia" menu there's no BT device connected, in "Telephone," all my contacts/info is populated and I can make/receive calls), but it also does not recognize the USB connection, either (which has worked PERFECTLY the entire time since I've taken delivery of the vehicle).
Tried managing the connection through the xDrive system; turned off the music capability, turned it back on (got the grayed-out music note icon when disabled, and white, "live connection" icon when re-activated); did the same thing with the phone connection. Tried restarting the phone, the vehicle, both, forgetting the re-establishing BT connections, plugging/unplugging of USB connection, nothing's working.
If I have to drive a $65K+ vehicle into a lake and recoup the insurance $$ over BT/USB connectivity issues, I'll be one sad German car owner!!!! 😉
After a few days of running 8.1 the issues had re-appeared again. Even with 8.1.2 there problems remained.
What finally DID solve the problem (2015 BMW M3 + iPhone 6+ have been issue-free for almost two weeks now) was a software update from BMW. You can download it and update the car without needing to go to the dealer from www.bmw.com/com/en/owners/connected_drive_services/mobile_devices/bluetooth_soft ware_update.html
Was Apple supposed to check every car on the planet? Did you send feedback previously?
My 6 Plus is working with my BMW but before pairing I deleted all previous pairings from my car.
I am not having BT problems with my 2012 BMW X5 to give you a data point.
