Projecting Excel

I use a MacBook Pro, OS X 10.9.5 (portuguese).

When connected to a projector, I can only see ppt on the projected image, despite opening other software in addition to ppt (eg. excel) the projector only shows my desktop theme.

I'm a teacher and I really need to project excel. How can I solve this?

Well look here:

OS X Mavericks: Connect multiple displays to your Mac

There are two options: mirroring and dual display.

From that document to set up mirroring:

"Set up the displays for video mirroring

  1. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Displays.
  2. Set both displays to the same resolution.
  3. Click Arrangement, then select Mirror Displays."

Thank you!

Right now I don't have any other display connected to iMac; and maybe that's my error! I've always tried to do this at home, when I'm not connected to any other device.... can it be? This is how my Displays window looks like:

But tomorrow, when I'll connect to another display, I'll try these tips for sure 🙂

Thank you very much for such a quick and concisely answer!

>the projector only shows my desktop theme<

So if this is the case you're halfway there. Press F3 and all the available desktops will appear. You'll probably have two desktops. The two will be at the top and the one you're on will be larger at the bottom and be displayed smaller at the top left. Grab the current window at the bottom and move it to the second desktop showing your theme.

When you do that the current window will be projected and will disappear from your laptop screen.

For this kind of demonstration teaching setting the display to "mirroring" is the way to go because you'll have to look at the projection to add entries.
