Yosemite WiFi bug

Hi,

I have noticed a weird WiFi bug with OS X Yosemite. This has never happened in any previous OS X that I have used.

I have a Early 2013 Macbook Pro with Retina display 13 and I updated to Yosemite a day after it launched.

I usually do not shut down my laptop and just keep it in sleep. After the update, sometimes when the laptop wakes up from

sleep WiFi is completely switched off. On trying to turn it on I get the following message in console:

22/10/14 1:41:11.000 pm kernel[0]: ARPT: 1911.087562: wl0: _wlc_ioctl: dead chip, off[0] bar0[0xffffffff]

Upon restart the WiFI icon becomes a grey icon with a cross mark and says either "No hardware installed" or

"WiFi not configured".

The only solution I have found till now is an SMC reset. But with the frequency of this happening is quite high

and is frustrating to always shutdown and do an SMC reset. Is anyone else facing similar issues? And

does anyone know of a fix without a restart ?

ColinWright thanks for that script. Kinda additional help in my current troubleshooting.

I have frequent Internet loss. And I have it on OS X 10.11.3, recently updated. I'm not sure if update was the reason or it wa before or is it apple/macoss issue or wifi network, but still I have the issue.

Your script is simply help me faster to get back to normal - it reconnect in fact my

en0
and Internet is back.

*** WIFI ERROR #1 DETECTED -- Trying again *** Sat Jan 30 02:56:12 CET 2016 via 192.168.0.12 : *** WIFI ERROR #2 DETECTED *** . Bringing en0 down and waiting five seconds... . Turning off Airport and waiting five seconds... . Turning on Airport and waiting five seconds... . Bringing en0 up and waiting five seconds... *** WIFI RECOVERY ATTEMPT COMPLETED ***

"Technicolor" router has been restarted.
I tried to switch wifi channels - first it was Auto, then I changed t channel 2 but no effect - it continues to lost Internet time to time:

I figured out what my issue was, and it may be different from many of yours, but I'm putting this up just in case it's helpful for other people.

My early 2011 MBP was being very odd: After a reboot, it would not stay connected to my home wifi for more than a few minutes. Once in awhile I could get an hour out of it, but that's about it.

The really odd thing is that it only happened on my home network; in the office it was 100% fine. Even after changing out the router for a new one at home I was getting the same problem. ***?

The console logs showed nothing at all odd; it would all of a sudden not connect to the Internet. The Wi-Fi icon at the top was still showing as connected, but when I clicked it it wouldn't show any networks. In addition, the network control panel showed the Wi-Fi as being turned off even though there were bars in the top menu. The Wi-Fi couldn't be turned back on.

Sometimes after rebooting it wouldn't see the Wi-Fi card at all, it would tell me the machine had no Wi-Fi. A few reboots later it would start working.

Sound familiar? If so then this may help.

I got it connected many times and I would run a ping ongoing to see when it dies. I noticed that it did it once when I moved. Could I have a loose cable?

My Macbook takes a bit of abuse and most of the screws have fallen out of the bottom plate and it was fairly loose. I took the bottom off and sure enough, my Wi-Fi ribbon cable was loose. I had recently changed the battery and must have done something to it while doing that.

I re-connected the cable tightly and made sure the bottom panel was secure.

And now I'm here typing this with no problems. Turns out that when using it at home I was usually laying back in bed, not supporting the baseplate, thus letting the loose cable sometimes disconnect.

It feel like an idiot for letting it happen, but feel pretty smart for figuring it out.
