Messages says Not Delivered

On my Mac running Yosemite when I open up Messages and choose a contact (a one that has imessage enabled and I can message with via my phone) to send the message to and I click send I get an instant (less than a second) feedback that it was not delivered.

In the console I see right after I send

21/10/14 14:40:35,703 imagent[240]: [Warning] Request to send message: IMMessageItem[outgoing: YES sender=(null); service=iMessage; handle=secretEmailAddressThatIChanged; unformatted=(null); country=(null); roomName='(null)'; flags=100005; subject='<< Message Not Loggable >>' text='<< Message Not Loggable >>' messageID: 47 GUID:'F563CCF5-3A9C-4C89-9F8F-167D0131949E' date:'435584435.000000' date-delivered:'0.000000' date-read:'0.000000' date-played:'0.000000' transfer guids: '(null)' empty: NO finished: YES sent: NO read: NO delivered: NO audio: NO played: NO from-me: YES DD results: NO DD Scanned: YES Downgraded: NO emote: NO expirable: NO expire-state: 0 error: 0] to chat: IMDChat: 0x7fed82c76520 GUID: iMessage;-;secretEmailAddressThatIChanged Style: - State: 3 Participants: (

I have tried the following things to get this fixed but without any success:

  • Deleting ~/Library/Messages and restarting
  • Signing out on all devices including my mac
  • Making sure timezone is correct and resetting it to trigger an update
  • Making sure all devices have the same list of email addresses

Any ideas how to get messages working on my mac?

While this approach didn't seem to work at first, I followed up by switching the option for "Start new messages from" from my phone number to my Apple ID & sent a message. The 1st attempt was not as an iMessage but a SMS (in green) which failed. The 2nd attempt worked right away as an iMessage. I then switched the "Start new messages from" back to my phone number & was able to successfully send iMessages again (got a 'Delivered' status).

The deletion of the relevant entries in the Keychain Access coupled with the change of the delivery account/instance (email/phone#) seems to have shaken it loose somehow.

Hi,

Based on the log that says there is no country set try this:-

Open Messages and Access the Preferences > Accounts > iMessages Account

Use the Details Button (you will have to Sign in again here)

In the new pane when it shows check the Country or region is correct.

Also check the System Preferences > Date and Time > Time Zone.

1) the Time Zone needs to be right.

2) The Date and Time is best served by setting the Automatic settings for the Time server.

3) check Daylight Saving settings.

In System Preferences > Language and Text check the Region settings (this one make less of a difference but check anyway)

Failing it being any of those delete com.apple.ids.service.com.apple.madrid.plist from ~/Library/Preferences

Restart Messages.

You will need to re-enter your Apple ID details in the iMessages account when you restart Messages.

Hi,

Go to ~/Library/Preferences again and delete com.apple.imagent.plist

Then launch Activity Monitor in Applications/Utilities and find the IMAgent item in the list (it will be in Lower case and have no icon)

highlight the item then use the Quit option bottom top left.

Confirm Force Quit

The item will restart automatically and appears higher up the list.

Restart Messages if open.

Having tried the troubleshooting suggestions above (thanks!), I am also still having the same issue. My error message is still:

12/11/2014 17:17:22.226 imagent[8105]: [Warning] Group message controler failed to prepare chat: IMDChat: 0x7ff8d272dcc0 GUID: iMessage;-;email address Style: - State: 3 Participants: (

) Room Name: (null) Display Name: (null) Identifier: email address Unread count: 0 Row ID: 1 Group ID: CB80D471-AFF2-44DB-8DE5-03DB08DA9ADA error: 4

I have also tried a completely different apple ID that is setup in a different country and am seeing the same issue and same error message as above.

Thanks

Toomasr,

Are you seeing issues with FaceTime as well? I am unable to call (video or audio) users that I can contact using a different computer or my phone. The error messages are quite different, but I wonder if the problems are related?

Thanks

R

Hi people,

If it is FaceTime and Messages try deleting com.apple.imagent.plist

You will need to access ~/Library/Preferences and drag the file to the Trash.

As this support app starts up when the computer does Restart the Mac.

So I am going to add some more information. I started a thread on the same problem but different title. I think there is a total of 3 threads on this so far. I was not willing to re-install Yosemite and have to lose 4 hours of my life for it not to solve my issue.

When first running Yosemite on my Macbook Air. The following use cases results were:

* I am able to receive SMS text message (the green bubbles) and send them from my Macbook Air.

* I am able to receive and send text via iMessage Service (the blue bubbles).

Then about two weeks later I installed Yosemite on my iMac. Currently my use case results in my Macbook Air are:

* I am able to receive SMS text message (the green bubbles) and send them from my Macbook Air.

* I am unable to receive and send text via iMessage Service (the blue bubbles).

The use case results on my iMac are:

* I am able to receive SMS text message (the green bubbles) and send them from my iMac.

* I am able to receive and send text via iMessage Service (the blue bubbles).

I tried to logout of the iMac from iMessages and iCloud. Then logged out of the Macbook air from iMessages and iCloud. Then logged back in on the MBA to iMessages and iCloud. My iPad then says that my iMac is added to Messages, or something like that. I am logged out of my iMac for iCloud, Messages and FaceTime.

This tells me that there is a something in the iCloud system that only sees my iMac. I log into iCloud.com and look in settings and it shows that only my Macbook Air is recognized as having Yosemite installed on it.

I think there is something weird going on with Continuity on the iCloud system.
