yosemite graphics problem on macbook

It's a repair; my understanding is that you have to either hand it in at the Apple Store, or sent it in by mail. You will be without a computer until they fix it.

Yeah, just got off the phone with Apple and they said 3 to 5 days.

However, I called a local authorized apple certified store called "MacAuthority" and they have an expedited service option for $50 with repair within 48-72 hours PLUS a loaner computer for no extra charge.

Just an update. There seems to a problem with my graphics board as the issue persists. Not sure if this is specific to my laptop or I have a bad batch of Macbook pro sold to me by Apple. All specs and details are posted above.

I have the same issue MacBook Pro Retina with Yosemite. system freeze and I have to hard boot specially with Photoshop.

I don't know why Apple is ignoring us? Hope someone can find out a solution other than gfxCardStatus and "Integrated Only".

Apple is not ignoring anyone. On Feb 20, 2015 Apple started a repair program for effected MacBook Pro's 13,15,17 inch Early 2011 MBPs experience the GPU problem will be repaired for free.

I just got mine back from Apple. It tool longer then the 3 to 5 days (8 days) but they also replaced my battery.

You must bring the MBP into a Apple store or a authorized service center or call Apple and they will send you a box...

Apple, unfortunately, IS IGNORING the same kind of problem with Pre-Retina MBP! I just started a new thread specifically on this. It is a hardware problem, and it occurred to me only after upgrading to Yosemite and Apple Sevice currently is refusing to take it under the Extended Repair Program that covers MBP of 2011 onwards.

lucky you, but a clean install of Mavericks inclusive PRAM and SMC reset did not change the behaviour of my GPU

Is the repair programme already implemented in Europe? I have had this lingering issue over time and would really want to get this resolved asap.

@Apple - please advise the timelines for us in Europe (UK in my case)?

I know about the repair program and I took my laptop to repair, but after testing with their tool they told me your system is OK. then they want to charge me for the check. so now back to square 1.

I am having the same problem, same Mac and same VMWare - so I thought it made sense to get in touch.

I am also having a very slow Windows on VMWare Fusion since I upgraded to Yosemite and had to also upgrade Fusion to 7.1.1 - functional hangs, graphics refresh, cursor jumping, etc., mainly in MS Excel, Word and Project.

Tried creating a new VM from scratch, different Processor/Memory settings - no luck. How is yours?

If you unfortunately have similar issues, maybe we should start another thread for VMWare.

I don't know if you're still experiencing these issues (I will assume you are), but I saw your post and identified with the same kind of usage. Anything that was intensive enough to warrant the handoff to the discreet graphics card (photoshop, hearthstone, etc), would be fine for about an hour and then bug out and crash.

I was having this problem on my 2014 MBP Retina, and having now gotten an 5K Retina iMac for work - what do you know!? - it has the EXACT same issue.

This is not a macbook problem. It is Yosemite's inability to properly utilize/work with the on-board GFX cards.

Ive submitted my bug report and linked to this thread as reference. I dont expect that I will hear anything back.
