hi,
What is shown ?
If it is an icon does it launch Preview app ?
Does anything appear in the File transfer window (See the Window Menu or Messages) ?

In your user folder go to (Library > Messages) then you SHOULD see a file called Attachments that takes up zero bytes. Delete that file and create a new folder inside of the Messages folder called "Attachments" That's all I did and now it works for me.
Hi,
That suggests that the Ownership of the original file had been lost/changed and deleting it and creating anew one gave you Ownership and Permission to Write to to the Folder.

Ralph:
The original was a File, whereas I had to change it to be a folder. I am unsure how a file was added there, but this is how i resolved the issue.
hi,
Thanks for the extra info. That make more sense.
I am not sure how the original folder got corrupted during the update to become a File instead of the Folder.

😉
In my case I have an attachments folder with the right ownership and permissions, but just to give it a try I removed it and created a new one with no success. (It means the newly received files can't be displayed either. I'm really disappointed.
This is what I was considering to do, just I'm not sure how to do it?. Should I simply download the Yosemite app from the Mac App Store, and install it? Thanks for your kind caring.
Hi,
I don't know if you have had Macs long enough to remember when you had Install Disks and could open the Installer and chose Archive and Install as opposed to Erase and Install.
The Current Restore (Restart the Computer holding down CMD + R) allows you to do the same thing.
A basic Restore reinstalls the OS over what you have leaving the User(s) info alone (like an Archive and Install used to do).
You can elect to do a Fresh Install which would Erase the Drive first (not what you want unless you have a Back up to Reinstall the User info afterwards).
After the Reinstall I would Open Disk Utility on the Mac (Applications/Utilities) and run the Repair Permission option in the First Aid part.

Hi Ralph,
Thank you, I should give it a try. I'll be back later with results.
(I've had Mac since mid 2012, my first OS was Mountain Lion on my MacBook Pro Retina. I think you can guess the answer to your first question. 😊)
I made the Current Restore and Repair Permission as you suggested, but I still have empty placeholders instead of files. I'm very disappointed. 😢
One benefit from reinstalling the OS is that Safari became as fast as it supposed to be, earlier it was unbearably slow under Yosemite.
I moved this issue to a new thread here: Blank placeholders in iMessage attachments, as this one is marked as solved, but it isn't in my case.
Thanks a lot! This solved the problem for me!
