I'm unable to find this attachments file anywhere. Can someone please post a screenshot of the string of folders in a dropdown view showing the correct way to adjust the messages folder/the correct messages folder to adjust?

See the Path Bar across the bottom of this window.
There should also be an Alias item that links to the Attachments folder
This is in the Containers section.

I've alto taken Ralph's suggested fixes (creating the Attachments folder as well as ensuring the symlink exists in the "Containers" folder) into a script that can be run. You can grab the script here. Once created, chmod it to execute it and it will check for the existence of files and nondestructively fix the issue-- Any preexisting files/folders will be renamed to *.old.
