OS_X_FULL_MARKETING_NAME cannot be installed on this computer

Dear community,

I have a mid-2010 MacBook with 4GB ram and about 900GB free disk space on a SSD that does not have any failures. I tried to find a solution in similar topics, but all prerequisites are matching in order to run the upgrade. Also the firmware EFI/SMC is up-to-date for this model (MaBook7,1).

My current OS is 10.6.8, everything is up-to-date. The app store allows me to download Yosemite, but once it is completed, it errors out with "Alert OS_X_FULL_MARKETING_NAME cannot be installed on this computer".

Any clue what I could do in this case to troubleshoot this any further?

Thank you very much - all help is highly appreciated.

Hi John,

for me the issue seems to be related to a mess with a time machine backup. I assume the problem has to do with restoring applications. It tries to install the latest apps but they partially cannot even run with the current OS X version.

I did a clean install now and that worked for me. If this is not an option for you and we talk about time machine backup, I'd try to restrore it without apps.

Best regards,

Henry

Right - I started with a clean install of Snow Leopard from DVD and ran all updates. Then in the end I installed Yosemite thru the app store. I did not run into any other issues which some people reported like the hanging loading bar or something. Ran smoothly. Maybe it's a good idea to not carry over too much old baggage.

Good luck.

Best regards,

Henry

Hi Community,

I have a late-2009 MBP running 10.6.8 (updated) with 8GB RAM and 400GB free disk space. When attempting to upgrade to either Mavericks or Yosemite, I am encountering the same issue that Mc Henry described - i.e. "OS_X_FULL_MARKETING_NAME cannot be installed on this computer." The App Store download completes, but the error occurs when I attempt to execute the upgrade.

I see that some folks resolved the issue with a clean install. I have Time Machine backups of all apps and data, but would really prefer to upgrade in place.

Has anyone come up with a solution other than a clean install?

Thanks,

John

P.S. If anyone is wondering, I am able to download Mavericks because I had downloaded it previously and it is still in my App Store purchased items list.
