iTunes Match Broken After iOS 8 - Only downloads a few tracks, icons spin on every track in library

I have upgraded both my iPad Air and iPhone 6 to iOS 8.1, and iTunes Match is broken in two ways that make it unusable.

First, every single song on both devices (except those already downloaded to the device) has the "spinning wheel" icon as if I tried to download the song from the cloud... but I have not tapped Download on any tracks. The iTunes Store "Downloads" list confirms that nothing at all is downloading. If I tap one of those spinning wheels... it becomes a progress wheel and the track begins to download, and shows up in the iTunes Store's Downloads list. So the icon for every track is just wrong, the little cloud-arrow replaced with a spinning (or sometimes stationary) wheel.

Second, and far more frustrating, is the "Download All" button at the top of a long playlist now downloads only the first 30-50 songs on that playlist. After that it just does not try to download any others, confirmed again in the iTunes Store's Downloads list. Every other song on my playlist has a stationary wheel icon (which is to say, not a spinning wheel but the same icon), and I have to tap every single one of those to get them to begin downloading. I'm going on a long vacation with minimal internet service, I want to download a bunch of music onto my new iPad and iPhone, I have playlists that are thousands of tracks long... and now I have to tap every single song on every single one to download them for offline listening, which is just infuriating.

Help!

So... still having problems downloading tracks. I basically gave up trying to download entire playlists. Whenever I attempt this the individual tracks display a spinning icon that never seems to go away unless I toggle match on/off. I now just download 3-10 tracks at a time, but even that approach seems to take way longer than it should. The download icon jumps to 75%-90% rather quickly then hangs forever. Sometimes it's a few additional minutes and other times it could be a full day. This occurs over various wifi networks running between 3mbps and 20mbps. It's very frustrating downloading playlists with hundreds of tracks. Anyone having better luck??

Sadly, no. I've got this problem, and on phoning Apple, they just say to reset the phone ... something i'm not too keen to do for obvious reasons.

I had spent 2 days getting about 1.5k songs downloaded onto my iPhone 6, and now it seems that they're not on the phone any more. And so back to the spinning wheels.

It's all pretty crappy really - with iOS 8, Apple seems to be morphing into MS : (

Some days are better than others....

So, I've found it's worthless to try and download an entire playlist and best to download individual tracks (up to 10 or so at a time). Of course, this is a real pain for playlist with hundreds or thousands of tracks. Some day the tracks will download rather quickly without hanging and other days they'll hand forever. Today, for instance, I'm getting 35 mbps download speeds yet my track downloads are hanging forever. They seem to get to 99%, but never fully complete. Clicking the seemingly 99% download icon reverts it back to a cloud download icon as if I never attempted to get the track. Sometimes I think the issue is related to my download speed, but how do you explain it hanging under these circumstances?? FRUSTRATING!

So guys, some good news here.

I decided to updated my phone to 8.3 Beta. And first thing I did was check iTunes match, it seems like the issue is solved (for whatever testing i did). I was able to download a full playlist within a playlist folder of over 100 songs completely fine. Other play lists did not have any spinning wheels and all songs completed normally. I will keep updating this forum if any glitches arise, if it works the way it should i will not post here.

I have 2 iphones and debating on updating to 8.2 and seeing if that fixes the issue since that is a lot closer to being released than 8.3

Thanks

Another update..

While the playlist download feature is fixed i have discovered something worse. New playlists don't appear in the music app. I created a new folder with a play list within it and it appeared on my iPad which is running the latest public iOS, but that folder nor playlist appear on both of my iPhones.

Dont understand what is so hard to make a working app, when it worked fine a few years ago.

So, I couldn't deal with the bugs of 8.3 and decided to give 8.2 beta 5 a try. Good news match still works, however the issue that I had with new play lists not appearing is still happening. Only way to make them appear is to disable match and re enable it.

Thanks for all the feedback ... much appreciated! 🙂

No problem 🙂

I have a work phone 5C running 8.2 beta 5, personal 6 Plus running 8.2 beta 5, and an iPad air 2 running latest available public 8.1 release.

5C match works perfectly as I want it to work, at least i have not been able to discover anything that i don't like about it.

6 Plus downloading of play lists work completely fine, however when a new playlist or a folder of plays lists is created within iTunes, Music app does not get updated with that playlist. Only way to see is it to disable and enable match in the settings of the music app. Which is so annoying for me, I just finished of going through my entire library and deleting and reorganizing stuff, and now i am starting to create playlists of what i want.

So now here is the odd part. My iPad always had the spinning wheel problem when downloading a play list of over 25 tracks, so all playlists where I tried to download them in the past are still spinning, however yesterday I tried to download a playlist over 90 songs and it downloaded fine and no issues.

So i started thinking, maybe it's a back end issue, that is now resolved (probably just wishful thinking). I tried going back to 8.1, but couldn't my backup has already been upgraded to 8.2 and couldn't restore from backup and have no interest level starting as a fresh phone, and iPad has too much stuff on it for me to restore just to check it.

I would suggest giving this a try and see if anything has been fixed.
