Setting up time capsule with sky broadband

I am on Sky broadband and currently have a Sky Fibre Hub connected to the BT openreach box. I also have the SKy on demand wifi box attached to my Sky+HD box that works v well connecting wirelessly to the Sky Fibre Hub.

I have just bought a shiny new AirPort Time Capsule that I want to use for my home wireless network, as a Time Machine back-up destination for my Mac and as a shared file server.

Please will you help me with the set-up? Should I remove and stop using the Sky Fibre Hub and connected the AirPort TC direct to the openreach box? If I do this is it possible for the On Demand wireless to still work? Or, do I need to keep the Sky Fibre Hub and connect the AirPort TC to this and change the settings so the Sky Fibre Hub wireless is switched off?

All help gratefully received!

good idea, however how far is your iMac from the TC and what type of walls.

My iMac is 12 metres away, with an internal wall and an external double skinned wall between them and it connects at around 200Mb/s as it is only a 802 n connection I think that is ok. I really think that you should ensure that you have the latest OS on your iMac as the latest update improves WIFI (hint HINT)

Hi Ted

been looking through the post and am in a similar situation. I recently switched to sky fibre and after 3 weeks the internet connection to the TC cut. I have the sky router plugged in and piggy backing the TC but is not ideal with my current setup. I have managed to get my sky username and password, but where do i put the details in so that i can revert back to having tc as my main router as such?

Hi Ted

I have finally got round to attempting to ditch my Sky Router - please can I ask your help?

My current set up is:

* Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro

* Sky Router plugged into OpenReach box

* Apple 3TB TC plugged into Sky Router

* Hopefully Sky will do what they said and confirm my static IP address in next hour!

My TM back-up and various CCC back-ups working v well with TC

I am keen to lose the Sky Router. Is this going to be possible and if yes, what do I need to do?
