iPod 4 won't let me log in to message or FaceTime

When I try to log on to my messages I click log in and I go to the screen that asks me what email I want to receive, and I click my email. I click next and about 15 seconds later it goes back to the login screen. Can someone help me? I am using an iPod touch 4th generation, 6.1.6.
