Pictures not showing up in Messages (Macbook)

When anyone sends me a picture through iMessage, it is not loading on my Macbook. It will display a bubble that says IMG_### (for example, IMG_280). When I click on it the following pops up

Any ideas how to fix this?

I just updated to Yosemite, but it was doing this before I updated also.

MacBook Air, OS X Yosemite (10.10)

I'm having the same issue. I reported it back when Yosemite was in public beta but I figured it may be taken care of with the official release but it hasn't. It's quite annoying since I need to open now my iPhone or iPad to see the picture sent :-( but it seems not everybody is having this problem, I tried sending a picture to a friend and he says it looks fine in his Macbook while in mine shows as IMG_XXXX so hopefully someone can figure it out.

So far I've tracked it down to images sent from iOS Devices, if I send the image from Messages on Yosemite it goes through fine, but I don't know why the other ones don't

This unfortunately did not work for me, unless I am going about it wrong... I do not know how to access the Messages file through User but when I go to Applications under Finder and right click it and click "Show Package Contents" I see a folder labeled "Contents". I tried adding the Attachments folder there but that did not help. I then tried adding the Attachments folder to the Contents folder but still nothing.

Do you happen to have any other suggestions?

You are at the wrong place, go to your home folder, then on menu Go hold the Option key and a new menu item "Library" will show up, press it, that will take you to ~/Library (alternately you can use the "Go to folder" option in the Go menu and insert ~/Library) and look for the Messages folder there. You'll see the Attachments file that you can delete and then create the folder called Attachments. That should do it 🙂

Hi,

The green surrounded item states it very clearly:-

You are at the wrong place, go to your home folder, then on menu Go hold the Option key and a new menu item "Library" will show up, press it, that will take you to ~/Library (alternately you can use the "Go to folder" option in the Go menu and insert ~/Library) and look for the Messages folder there. Since Lion the Library that is inside your Little House Icon folder (Home Folder) has been hidden.

You can use the Go to Folder option in the Go Menu when you have a Finder window open.

An Alternative is to use the Go Menu whilst holding the ALT key down which temporarily shows the Library in the Menu list which you can select.

You then navigate to the Messages folder.

In here should be a folder called Attachments.

After some updates it gets converted to a file.

Recreate a Folder and call it Attachments.

Restart Messages so it can "See" the folder.

Hi,

This thread refers to an earlier issue with sending Pics that is different to the issue that has arisen since Yosemite has had the OS X 10.10.3 update.

It is not that this Update causes the problem - it just provides a specific time stamp to things.

Currently AIM have changed the way Pics can be sent.

They no longer appear in line in a conversation or Chat.

You need to send them in a folder which cause Messages to Zip them before sending.

If this is not the issue you are having it may pay to start a fresh thread.
