Xcode 6.1 unavaliable

Hi,

I have been trying for a few days to update Xcode to version 6.1 and I keep getting "This item is temporarily unavailable. Try again later." I have tried again later, for a couple days, with no luck. Even rebooted a couple times (which I never do), just to see if that changed anything.

Is there anything special I might have to do to get it to work, or has Xcode 6.1 actually been unavailable for the last few days?

Thanks in advance! 🙂

Hi Badlandz,

I have had the same problem, sort of.

I was able to update xcode via the App Store on my Mac Book Pro, and install it fresh on a new yosemite install on an xserve of all things. The problem seems to only manifest on 2008 My Mac Pro, which has probably never had a clean reinstall. Otherwise my setup is working properly. If this doesn't go away I am going to look for remnants of old xcode (eg stuff in the developer folder from pre-app store) and see if it makes a difference. Very frustrating.

I don't believe the item really is temporarily unavailable since I have been able to install on other Macs same OS, same network, same Apple ID.

Did you have any luck?

That command [rm -rf "$(getconf DARWIN_USER_CACHE_DIR)/com.apple.appstore"] did not work for me (macbook air, just after upgrading to Yosemite). It appeared to run ok, but the download still just span it's wheels and nothing was coming through. However when I ran Disk utility to repair the volume and then did a permissions cleanup, the download appeared to work. by "appeared" I mean it's downloading as I write. I presume that means it will install ok when it's finished... only 54 minutes to go ...

(Of course, there's always the chance your command line worked, in combination with what I did with the disk utility.)

I had this problem and tried various ways to resolve it, and eventually found the "Check for Unfinished Downloads..." option mentioned above. I can affirm that using it resumed the download, the Paused icon in my Launchpad went away and I am no longer being advised there is an available Xcode update.

The solution above worked for me

Hi BadlandZ,

I encountered the same problem before and I was able to solve the problem.

You need to stop the update of the XCode 6.1 and in order to stop the download, go to the Launchpad and click the Xcode icon for 2 seconds and the "x" button will appear and click the x button. (don't worry, the application will not be deleted.)

After clicking the x button go to the app store and update the xcode.

Hope this works.

I just managed to fix this without any third party stuff or manual downloading. I think people are right that, somehow, the download of Xcode got stalled and OS X kept it flagged as being downloaded. What I did was go into LaunchPad (the rocket ship app icon in the Dock) and find one of the apps that has no icon and is labeled "Paused." Hold down the Option key to make them all wiggle and then click the X to delete the permanently paused download. They go back to the App Store and try Updating it again. For me, it didn't show the progress bar for the download in the App Store initially. I had to go back into LaunchPad and see that it was downloading. Then navigating around the App Store and back to the Updates tab made the download progress appear.
