Yosemite Screen Saver Problem

Since upgrading to Yosemite, I am having a problem with my Screen Saver.

I use my iPhoto Library as a source, but the problem is that the Screen Saver keeps reverting back to the Nat Geo pictures (default?).

A few others on this forum are having the same problem, but I haven't seen any suggestions that work.

I tried repairing permissions as suggested elsewhere. The problem persists.

I tried deleting the "apple.com.screensaver.plist" file as suggested somewhere else. The problem persists.

My uneducated guess is that this issue will be addressed in a future update.

I guess we all just have to wait.

Any suggestions will be appreciated!

Thanks Eric.

I already have an open discussion which I will continue: Yosemite Screen Saver Problem

I will also try the procedure you stated again:

"Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.screensaver.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.

Restart and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.

If the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.

Thanks to leonie for some information contained in this."

This also works and has for me for several months now:

Go to finder and find Screen Saver - you will find the default folder in one of two folders that show up. Inside of Default folder you will find folders - 1-national geographic and three other folders. Make a new folder on desktop and name it 0-MyScreenSaver - copy jpg's you want in screen folder in that folder and drag the folder to the default folder - as you do that, you will probably be asked by computer for password to change the finder - enter it and ok it. Then change the number of the National Geographic folder to 4-National Geographic. Then change 0-MyScreenSaver to 1-MyScreenSaver.

Then delete the #4 folder.. Then go into preferences and select screen saver and choose 1-MyScreenSaver. And when you feel bold - delete the 2, 3, and 4 folders.

Eric,

I followed this procedure and found that there is no com.apple.screensaver.plist at that location.

Should I be concerned?

The library you need to look in is invisible by default in Yosemite.

NOTE: In Lion and later the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

For Mavericks and Yosemite go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring up this window:

User uploaded file

Or you can dDownload and run Find Any File to search for a file with "com.apple.screensaver.plist" in the file name.

FAF can search areas that Spotlight can't like invisible folders, system folders and packages. If there's a library hiding somewhere on your hard drive FAF will find it.

You'll discover that there is an com.apple.screensaver.plist file in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.

So I had the same problem ever since downloading Yosemite, finally I just made a folder on my desktop called "screensaver" and put the photos I wanted to use in that folder, I then located the "National Geographic" folder using spotlight and deleted the photos in that folder. I then added the entire "screensaver" folder to the National Geographic folder and my problem is now solved.

It's not, of course, a solution to the root problem but it is a work around that lets you have the screen saver you actually want.
