iMac 5K Retina extremely slow Mission Control

Just got the base model iMac Retina 5K. Mission Control is extremely slow, and so far seems to be only part of the UI that lags. It can barely even animate. I know these are new and not yet proven, but even the worst integrated card can animate Mission Control smoothly on other Macs. I can't understand why it lags so badly. I don't want to just wait for an update while I'm in my return window, in case this is the potential of this card while driving this display, but I can't imagine that to be so.

Hello everyone!

Searching the web for anyone having the same Problem with lag (in my case even spradically malfunction) of Mission control, brought me here.

It is still an issue for me, using macOS Sierra 10.12.2 on my iMac Retina 27" Late 2015!
Please look here at the video I put to YouTube:
macOS Sierra 10.12.2 - iMac Retina 27" - Mission Control F3 funktioniert sporadisch nicht - lags - YouTube

You can see, Mission control not even appearing, after hitting F3.

This happens sporadically.

Mostly after working for a couple of minutes.
I usually have opened some windows, e.g. 2x safari, mail, messages, cal, finder. Not quite a lot.

This is still the same Problem for me since Dec. 2012 until now.
I find it quite frustrating, to be honest.
I also updates RAM from 8GB up to 24GB – but no effect on this.

Apple iMac 27" Retina 5K MK472D/A Intel Core i5 3.2GHz, 8GB RAM, 1TB Fusion, AMD Radeon R9 M390 2GB

history:
- 1st iMac
- Bought this very new iMac in Dec. 2016
- Updated to macOS Sierra and transferred my account with Migration assistant
- Issues with malfunction of Mission control
- On the 2nd day I sent it back to seller and one week later got another completely new one (with other ID of coarse)
- 2nd iMac
- Now I only updated to macOS and DID NOT transfer my account. But still this issue.
- Called Apple Support and I was adviced to wait for the next OS updates ;-)
So the second new iMac showed the same failure! That all was in December 2016.

Now, June 2017, it’s not solved at all and still making me crazy.

I think I will go to the Apple Store to get some help there.

So, what is your opinion in this case?
Have you ever seen Mission control not working like this?

Thanks in advance,

regards,

Klaus.

The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership.

If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different. If you bought from a reseller, its return policy applies.

I have the base model Retina iMac and I have the same UI lag on Mission Control. I've been through two Retina iMac's both had the same issue. Every other animation is smooth except for Mission Control and opening a new tab to top sites in Safari.

Something is definitely going on software wise because sometimes its smooth but most of the time its not.

I also have the base model but with more RAM and a 512GB SSD, and I experience stutter in Mission Control. I am sure this is a Yosemite issue, because everything else works very fast and this Mac really flies..

There are reports that other Retina Macs are experiencing similar issues. I guess when Yosemite 10.10.1 comes out we will see a fix for this issue..

Hey, it's been almost a year since I am stuck with my $3000 late 2013 retina MacBook pro, irritated every day by the same exact problems. In addition to that, I have Lego blocks in some graphics-heavy apps like photoshop and final cut and flickering lines in some other apps. I've been through a process of swapping screens and logic boards, and even a swap of the whole laptop.

I honestly think you should just, get your money back and get a last-year's model iMac with the best possible specs for the same money. you just can't imagine so far, how much disappointment and stress youre about to get from this. All the best, mate, you're now one of us 🙂 if interested, search for topicd about ui lag in retina MacBooks, and you'll be horrified how many views and answers there are. Peace!

I've also experienced severe lag with almost all animations in Yosemite with my Retina iMac (base config with the exception of 16GB RAM, rather than the standard 8GB), not just Mission Control. Opening photos using Quick Look or attempting to open Finder shows a considerable animation lag.

I have managed to alleviate the issue however by turning off transparency in System Preferences > Accessibility > Reduce transparency.

It's not an ideal solution, as I think the transparency is one of the nicest things about Yosemite's new UI, but it seems to make everything work as it should until Apple release a software update which I would hope solves this issue.
