iMac 5K Retina extremely slow Mission Control

Just got the base model iMac Retina 5K. Mission Control is extremely slow, and so far seems to be only part of the UI that lags. It can barely even animate. I know these are new and not yet proven, but even the worst integrated card can animate Mission Control smoothly on other Macs. I can't understand why it lags so badly. I don't want to just wait for an update while I'm in my return window, in case this is the potential of this card while driving this display, but I can't imagine that to be so.

no, its the same, just sluggish

i have just called apple here in denmark, and they confirmed the issue, and said that they dont have a solution for now, i also visited 2 different electronic stores today, and tested the 5K imac in the store, and they both have the same issue with sluggish and lagging mission control

apple denmark, has agreed to take my 12 days old imac back, and return it with a new with the 295 graphics card, free of charge

i will post back if the issue persist with the bigger graphic card

Sincerely

They let me return mine too and I got the 295 card. Seemed to resolve it at first, but after a week or so the performance started to degrade again. It's not nearly as bad as before, but still not perfect. Don't understand how Apple even released this product, there's no way they could have missed it during testing. I love the 5K iMac too much that I'll live with it for now in the hopes they will resolve it with a software update.

the Mission Control GUI bug also severely effects my mid-2009 iMac (with ATI Radeon HD 4850 GPU). before installing Yosemite on my iMac, the Mission Control user interface was smooth as butter, now it lags & stutters when activated. i don't understand how Apple engineers could have overlooked such a GLARING BUG. and they don't seem to be taking it seriously either. very disappointing. i DID use Mission Control (with Hot Corners set), but I've had to disable it, because the sluggish graphics transitions (when MIssion Control is activated) are incredibly annoying. Apple seems to be more concerned about pushing new products out the door, than quality & usability of their software. Yosemite was a mess from day 1, and still is in many respects. sad.

I've had the 2014 macbook pro retina and the 2015 one that just came out a couple weeks ago.

Both lag terribly. It drives me crazy just using the computer. Especially if running skype or something. Even with one app open

it's still kind of low in the frame rates. I did reduce transparency on the 2015 with the force touch and it helped quite a bit but

not perfect. It was usable with transparency off.

A lot of people seem to not even notice the lag which is annoying because it's so bad. It's a shame I sold both of the macbooks to

just stick with a desktop PC. I like the macbooks retinas but just can't deal with the FPS drops.

Now the Macbook air is a lot better. It's pretty smooth although not perfect but its usually good. Guessing because there is no retina display on it.

The graphics or processor don't seem to be good enough. They can only do so much optimization to the UI animations and performance.

Also these were brand new macbooks with no other apps installed and it still lagged. Skype I installed afterwards which only affects it when on a call.

I respectfully request that you:

A) Stay on topic. This thread is about Retina iMacs and Mission Control, specifically. It is NOT about general UI lag.

B) Read what has already been documented. It is not a hardware issue of any kind. It is a software issue. Amateur theorizing like "graphics or processor don't seem to be good enough" does nothing to help anyone. That kind of garbage belongs on Apple-fan forums, not Apple Support Communities.

Thank you.

I've noticed considerable improvements to this since I installed the latest 10.10.3 public beta (14D113c). Since I got my riMac, I've had to use the 'Increase contrast' trick because the situation was so bad, and I've seen no improvements whatsoever in all of the previous builds of 10.10.3 up to the latest. This build, however, has given me renewed confidence, as it seems to have almost eradicated the lag completely.

Don't get me wrong, it's by no means perfect and there is still improvements which can be made, but I can now use OS X with its default settings of standard transparency across the board with little to no problems.

Unfortunately there is no Mavericks or lower for the iMac Retina 5k.

So there is no comparison.

I can only compare to my MacBook Retina 13" on Yosemite.

With the latest update of OSX Mission Control runs smoother, but it still has Lags etc.

The improvement to the Februaryversion of OSX is that in my opinion Mission Control is now usable on the iMac Retina 5k.

Don't Understand me wrong, it is still way more laggy than on my MacBook, but it is now usable without Reduce Contrast or something.
