iMac 5K Retina extremely slow Mission Control

Just got the base model iMac Retina 5K. Mission Control is extremely slow, and so far seems to be only part of the UI that lags. It can barely even animate. I know these are new and not yet proven, but even the worst integrated card can animate Mission Control smoothly on other Macs. I can't understand why it lags so badly. I don't want to just wait for an update while I'm in my return window, in case this is the potential of this card while driving this display, but I can't imagine that to be so.

I sent mine back and got the equivalent non-retina iMac (refurbished) for now. What with the glitches and the thermo dynamics of the new graphics chips I decided it was better to give this 1st generation a miss and wait until Apple have ironed out the issues. The graphics chip on the retina I had was definitely working hard, which I noticed when running full screen flyovers in Apple Maps. They didn't run well on the retina and are much smoother on the non-retina machine I have now (with GTX775M graphics). The non-retina machine also runs a lot cooler, and the fan hasn't moved from its base speed so far in the use I've had with it. When I ran the Apple Maps flyovers on the retina machine the fan was ramped up quite a bit to try and cool the graphics chip. There's no doubt the screen looked magnificent, but it's only one part of the overall experience for me, and I'd rather not have to make sacrifices to enjoy that.

Really do u notice improvements on Mission Control Lag on 10.10.3 beta 2?is it your direct experience ? i bought mine 1 week ago(the base unit) and i upgraded to 24GB Ram but me too i've this annoying problem , i spent 2500 Euros and i'm so upset , for me that Mission Control function is so useful , i really hope Apple addresses this problem with the next release...it's incredible they don't test their product so deeply before to release on the market 😟

anyway thanks for sharing it but , not because i don't trust you , i'll believe it when i'll see it with my own eyes 🙂 😉

Cheers

Is it my direct experience? I started this topic. I have been using the machine since the day it was released, and have updated and documented my experience and my correspondence with Apple.

10.10.3 beta 2 has dramatically improved Mission Control performance, without question. For me, I would almost go so far as to say "Fixed". I have no doubt that the final public release of 10.10.3 will address this issue in its entirety.

Apple Engineers have confirmed for me from the beginning that this is indeed a software issue, and will be fixed with a software update. Took a few months, but that is indeed happening.

It has absolutely positively 100% nothing to do with hardware. At all. You will find plenty of know-it-alls (better known as know-nothings) that have polluted this topic and others with their "conclusive theory" that Apple shipped an inferior graphics card to handle the 5K Retina display....none of which is based in any sort of reality.

The reality is: OS X was not entirely optimized for the 5K Retina display, and Apple has been working that out over the last few months. Perfection is not far off now.

I have been calling for months about this issue. I was willing to wait for a software fix, but my computer became unbearable to use and they finally agreed to replace it. I know it's a software issue, but I just couldn't wait any longer and heard the M295X resolves it. The M295X does make a huge difference, but still isn't perfect, so I'm still looking forward to a software update to resolve this completely. The M295X also runs incredibly hot, it's like have a space heater on my desk, so I don't recommend getting it if a software update is coming soon to fix this. Now that others confirm the newest beta fixes it, it's a no brainer to wait a bit longer.
