Yosemite [erroneously] displays multiple Shared Instances under Finder

Since upgrading to Yosemite I have noticed that my iMac appears several times in the Shared area of Finder

e.g

Devices

iMac (13)

Shared

iMac

iMac (2)

iMac (4)

iMac (5)

iMac (6)

iMac (7)

iMac (8)

etc..

I had noticed something similar under Mavericks; the System Log suggested that there was another system [duplicate] on the network using the same Name/IP Address. In that case the Device Name was changed to iMac (2).

I have tried to edit the Device Name under Sharing in System Preferences - but the system changes it back to some other "random" number

Interestingly it says:

Computer Name: iMac (13)

Computers on your local network can access your computer at: iMac-12.local

Any ideas what is happening ? [I have noticed a few other folks (on other forums have encountered the same problem - although no solution as yet!]

Many Thanks

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10)

What I found was that the update DID seem to solve the duplicating issue. Rebooting the Airport Express cleared the duplicates listed under "Shared."

However, my two machines cannot CONNECT to each other using the links provided under "Shared". They can via Finder \ Go \ Connect to Server (or Command K).

Since the original issue of duplicates was one that developed and worsened over time, and since the links under "Shared" still do not work, I likewise plan to monitor the computers for a potential reemergence of the issue.

Have to jump in here and note that I too am having issues with Yosemite. We have a mostly Apple setup here. We have two iMacs, one 6 months old, the other 6 years LOL. Both running Yosemite and with the v.10.10.1 upgrade. We also have two iPads, one being an iPad2, the other a 1Pad4, and two iPhone6's. Also have one token Windows machine which is not problematic LOL. Hows that for a twist of the knife... the PC is running like a champ, my iMac is running like a sick puppy. Oh yeah... also have a Gen1 Apple TV on the network, hardwired.

So in the left column in Finder I'm showing "Mikes iMac (11)" in the "Devices" section, the in "Shared" I see "Mikes-iMac (6). My ISP is Comcast, have their Cable Modem, connected to my Airport Extreme A1521 802.11ac. The modem does have two "networks" a 5GHz and a 2.4GHz. I should note that since installing Yosemite the multiple listings of Mike's-iMac have shown up, and also I am seeing the spinning ball for much longer periods of time than I have ever seen it before when I try to attach an image to an email or something along those lines. I tried to do a bit of housekeeping, and delete some movies that were on my root drive, and even throwing the trash seems to take longer than ever.

Has anyone determined if this is in fact a Yosemite bug or what, and is there a solid fix? Like I said up above... its ironic that my Windows machine is running without any hiccups for months on end and its been nothing but a struggle with Mavericks and Yosemite.

Hello LightenMike

Sadly as you will see from this growing thread, there is no 'fix' or an apple solution so far. But hopefully Apple will sort this out, it seems that there are quite a few 'bugs' in OS X 10 that need sorting so keep an eye out for any patches that Apple put up.

FYI - I've now got my iMac showing 16 erroneous copies in my shared section in Finder!!!

Running 10.10.1 has made no difference. Resetting the wireless network and routers have also made no difference.

Heaven only knows where this has crept in, but it is very flaky in that it affects some machines, but not all. MacBook Pro (late 2008) affected, but MacBook Air (2010) not. That said, something is broadcasting on the network as the Air still sees multiple copies of the MBP, so something's shouting rubbish!
