Ethernet (LAN) not working after Yosemite upgrade..

Ok, so recently I realized my ethernet is not working. After the upgrade it made my iMac get on wifi so I didn't notice it till later on.

I don't use wifi because it has slow connection in my room so this is really annoying.

Things I tried.

1. SMC ******** that didn't fix anything

2. Re-adding ethernet

3. Putting service order on top.

4. Changed my LAN cable.

5. reset my router.

everything i did didn't work so I decided to reinstall yosemite.

(and ETHERNET WORKED) however, its not working again,....

please help ☹

ok i did some research after posting this questions

and found a solution. (i think, hopefully this is a permanent fix)

go to Macintosh HD > LIBRARY > PREFRENCES > located SystemConfiguration folder and rename it to SystemConfiguration.old

Im having the same problem.(late 2012 imac 27)

No ethernet at all. It says 'cable unplugged'

so far Ive tried:

SMC and PRAM reset

Recovery mode (wifi off) (cable connected - but no internet)

Network assistant (changing advanced settings)

Adding/removing Ethernet

Manually configuring and renewing DHCP lease

Testing in safe mode

Recovery mode (safe mode) to see if ethernet will work

Connecting different cables

Testing router

Connecting same cable to pc ( successful connection )

OSX re install

Ethernet port remains unresponsive

I know my cable is good and the signal from the router is good.

I can connect with wifi

And today I have bought a thunderbolt to ethernet cable which does work.

What concerns me is that the ethernet port might be a sign of something else failing like the logic board?

From what I have read this problem has effected only 'some' machines

Ive spoken with apple support who cant seem to fix this.

If anyone finds out a way to fix this or if it is a hardware failure it would be good to know.

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

cant imagine it will make the slightest bit of difference.

but the More people who let them know it's a problem, the more chance they will fix it

This seems to work. Just add to the instructions that a reboot is required after renaming the folder.

I checked the plist files in that folder and they contained a lot of very old info (previous ISP, old routers, etc.) so getting it refreshed can't hurt.
