Ethernet (LAN) not working after Yosemite upgrade..

Ok, so recently I realized my ethernet is not working. After the upgrade it made my iMac get on wifi so I didn't notice it till later on.

I don't use wifi because it has slow connection in my room so this is really annoying.

Things I tried.

1. SMC ******** that didn't fix anything

2. Re-adding ethernet

3. Putting service order on top.

4. Changed my LAN cable.

5. reset my router.

everything i did didn't work so I decided to reinstall yosemite.

(and ETHERNET WORKED) however, its not working again,....

please help ☹

ok i did some research after posting this questions

and found a solution. (i think, hopefully this is a permanent fix)

go to Macintosh HD > LIBRARY > PREFRENCES > located SystemConfiguration folder and rename it to SystemConfiguration.old

Same problem here.

iMac 27" Late 2013.

WiFi works.

Ethernet worked but after reboot it does not work anymore.

The problem is NOT my router. All other devices (computers, NAS) connected to it via Ethernet work.

Ethernet in "Network" System Preferences Panel says "Self-assigned IP address". No internet connection (via Ethernet).

Apple, please fix this !!

Same here.

MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010)

Any machine on my network that hasn't been upgraded to Yosemite is fine. Any on Yosemite seem to be throttled to 1-2mb upload speeds (expect 30).

i found out that this is only temporary...

( for me anyways )

after the first restart, (after deleting the files)

it works fine, but after ANOTER restart

its back to ****. this is getting annoying.

apple really needs to fix this.

Try this:

system preference
network
make sure using "Location: Automatic"
Assist me...
Diagnostics...
choose Automatic then Continue
Choose the network port you using Ethernet or Wi-Fi then Continue
restart your router/modem and select Continue

tried this... it just doesn't recognize my ethernet cable.. (even if its connected)

thats an obvious solution bro

my wifi works, other computers with ethernet connection works.

and when i try deleting the system preferences folder it works.

please read the thread before answering..

just wondering if you found a solution. I have the same problem.I actually have two macbook pros using Yosemite 10.10.1 that both have the same problem. Did your renaming the system configuration folder work? I just posted a question for discussion yesterday.

Same issue here. I did notice that it happens overnight, and that if I restart my box and plug the ethernet cable into the other ethernet port on the back of my Mac Pro (mid 2010), it works. That is, until another night goes by then it stops working.

Wifi works fine though.

Please fix, Apple!

TThat solution was temporary... I'm still talking to one of the apple "engineers" that doesn't not know what's going on.

sigH. My room has weak wifi connection I really need ethernet...

This worked for me:

1. Hooked a different computer to the network

2. Got network info from that computer in Network settings

3. Manually entered the IP, subnet mask, router and DNS server from other computer (I did have to try different IP addresses until I found one that worked).

thanks for the reply.

What was ur error message before trying this out?

Since mine doesn't recognize the ethernet cable AT ALL (cable unplugged)

modifying the ip and dns manually didn't solve anything.

(i had a screenshot of the network settings page when it worked on mavericks to prove it to apple)
