How do I turn off autoplay of video content in Safari?

Can someone tell me how to disable the auto play-back of video content when browsing on my iMac in Safari 8.0 (OS X 10.10)? The question goes for all sites that post video content to start playing as soon as the page finishes populating. If I want to watch the video, I want to proactively click "play," rather than have it start playing automatically.

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10)

Hi ...

You can have control using the ClickToFlash Safari Extension here > https://extensions.apple.com/details/?id=com.hoyois.safari.clicktoflash-GY5KR723 9Q

After it's installed, you can access ClickToFlash from Safari > Preferences > Extensions.

For OS X Yosemite 10.10 set the following in Safari Preferences:

1. In the Advanced tab, set "Stop plug-ins to save power".

2. In the Security tab, set "Allow Plug-ins" by Internet Plug-ins and then click "Website Settings..." for it.

3. Find the media type you want to stop auto-play in the left hand column(s).

Most non-Flash videos (mp4/h264/HTML5 video) will be "QuickTime".

4. Set "When visiting other websites" to Ask to click to start, or Block for permanent disabling.

5. Click "Done".

Safari will play the video(s) on a page for a brief period before stopping to save power, and the noise will cease.

Clicking on the play button on the video will start the video and audio again for viewing when desired.

Suggested solutions are not working for me. Videos on cnn.com continue to autoplay, even after safari restart or hardware reboot. I've tried multiple variations of options in System and Safari and ClickToFlash and videos continue autoplaying. Very annoying.

I'm on 10.9 using Safari 7.

What I noticed is that I'm not getting flash ads anymore; I'm getting mp4 ads. I don't see where there's any autoplay flag like you have with flash so my thinking is there's got to be a systems setting somewhere that says not to autpplay an mp4.

Click2Flash obviously won't work and neither does Click2Plugin. At least for me. I might not be the sharpest tool in the shed.
