Yosemite screensaver problem. Constsantly reverts back to National Geographic.

Has anyone found a fix to the screensaver problem? Nothing I try seems to work, including editing the Library files.

Thanks.

I've been having this problem too, doesn't look like there is a solution out there. Are you trying to select your own photo library from iPhoto?

Leafy,

This has been tried by others with varying success. It also takes away the ability to shut down or else sys pref closes. The best work around (and not too hard) is to save the contents of Nat Geo folder to a new folder, empty the original and fill with photos of your choice. This may take some time depending on how many photos you wish to load. It took me <15 min to load several hundred photos of my choosing. Now the Nat Geo default stays locked in and it shows my version of Nat Geo.

Meanwhile these are still work arounds and not fixes and Apple has a real problem here that needs to be admitted to, addressed and fixed. Clearly there is something wrong if the screensaver reverts on its own to any file, Nat Geo or other. Apple reads these forums and knows about this. Why the foot dragging and subsequent refusal to at least acknowledge there is a problem and they are working on it instead of simply pretending this thread, and problem does not exist.

Come on Apple!

IMHO since Steve's passing, Apple has gone in the wrong direction, both hardware and software. This is a joke of a problem with those that have "solutions" which is nothing more than minimizing the preference window. Come on man, this is a joke. i realize it is only a screen saver and not life and death but it shouldn't matter whether it is a security problem or a simple screen saver, this problem should be escalated to the highest level since it has been a problem since the inception of this o/s! It is for issues like this that truly turn my taste buds sour for Apple!

Exactly. This is very annoying. Was hoping it would have been resolved in one of the so-called updates that 'improve stability'. But no. I spoke with an Apple rep, too, who put an Apple tech on the phone with me. The suggestion was to delete some files in the secret library somewhere on my 2012 MacBook Pro. That lasted a day. Really? Not very impressive.

Here is a 1/2 fix

The NatGeo folder is in Library/Screen Savers/Default Collections

The folder is actually called 1-National Geographic thus when the screensaver reverts to the default folder it always chooses 1-National Geographic

The fix is to place an alias to the folder that has the pix you want to use in the Default Collections folder and put a * infant of the name so it is always first in the list

I still can't figure out how to make it stay on shuffle but at least I can use my pix folder instead of the default NatGeo

Thanks for the help,

I have just finished a call with Apple after trying all of the changes, I noticed whenever I shut down the iMac and then started back up, the default setting for screen saver was set to Nat Geo.

Here is what they told me to do to fix the problem - 1) set the screen saver to my desired setting - in my case photos, 2)quit system preferences, and then 3) log out of my user account and log back in. When this was done, the screen saver setting was still on my selection.

Apple also had me reset some memory settings. I was asked reboot the iMac and then press simultaneously the Option+Command+R+P keys and hold until second bong as heard in startup. After doing this, I have not had a problem for several days.

The Apple rep said he had heard about this issue that is occurring after upgrading to Yosemite.
