Mac mini 2014 won't wake monitor via HDMI

Hello! I just purchased a brand new Mac mini (Late 2014), 2.6 GHz Intel Core i5 with Intel Iris 1536 MB, running Yosemite 10.10. It's connected to an Acer K242HL monitor via HDMI.

The monitor connection works correctly (I'm typing this on it now), until I attempt to wake the monitor from sleep. The Mac itself clearly wakes when I click the mouse (the white light stops blinking and stays solid), but the monitor does not respond. I have to power off/on the monitor to get it to wake up.

I have previously used the monitor with a MacBook Pro (via HDMI) in clamshell mode and had no problems with it waking up straight away, so I'm assuming the problem lies with the Mac mini.

Can anyone offer any advice about this? It's very annoying not being able to quickly wake up the display when I need to use the Mac.

Thanks!

Mac mini, OS X Yosemite (10.10)

The same here with brightness and Contrast. On-going case with Apple update: jumped through final hoop of different tests Apple have asked me to do over the weeks. I then explained this forum again to the advisor, especially the many complaints now and the case numbers on here. He is going to feedback to engineers and let me know next week. They can't avoid this any longer...

No solution yet? In that case, I need some advice.

I bought my MM just 3 days ago (Jan 4) and noticed the same problem.

MM to monitor via HDMI to HDMI. I updated to 10.1.1, reset SMC, reset PRAM, and verified that the issue eve gets worse in Safe-Mode. Planning to go to the Apple Store on Saturday, but now, I've got a dilemma...

Do I, exchange the unit for a new one (because clearly it's not working as advertised), OR should I just simply return the unit for a refund and wait it out? The only issue is that I'd really like to start moving away from my 2007 iMac.

Either way, I don't plan on going home with the unit I originally bought... I mean, c'mon... out-of-the-box, and I'm already resetting things like PRAM and SMC?

I'm also hesitant to buy a MiniDisplay-to-HDMI adapter since the results that are logged on the forums lead to mixed result. And what the heck, a computer that SHOULD be able to connect via HDMI and I have to buy an adapter because it's not working correctly?

BTW, my case number is 726102455 if anyone else wants to reference it.

I would seriously return it. Wish I had. Too many hours wasted jumping through Apple hoops to no avail. Their engineers continue to ignore that this problem isn't exclusive to my set up and have me trying all sorts...I feel as a delaying tactic or one in hope I give up. Their reps (that replay messages between customer and engineer) are kind in manner- but the overall problem is not being addressed and I feel like I am being made a fool of now, after all these calls. Poor customer service in that respect- I wish I hadn't given them my custom!

I don't know your monitor's details. I was fortunate in that my monitor also has a DVI connector. I bought a $9 mini displayport to DVI cable. Six days now and it works perfectly. It is NOT an issue with your mini. It's an issue with ALL minis. So if you only have HDMI on your monitor, get a refund. If you have a DVI connection, do what I did.

My monitor has HDMI (2x) and VGA (Asus MX239h or something like that). I guess I could use a Mini-Displayport to HDMI adaptor to see if that works, but again, it's just the whole idea that I have to do buy something else because it's not working the way it should. Also, MM Mini-Displayport to Monitor HDMI seems to work only some of the time with users on the forums, so it's still a gamble.

I feel like I'm buying a Brand-New car that was sitting in an outside lot - in the sun and rain, with mileage other than '0'. If this is the reality of the Mac Minis right out-of-the-box, I feel like I should be able to negotiate the price.

Leaning more to just returning it and continuously checking to see if a solution has been made later on. ****** thing was a birthday gift and now it's just turning into a hassle and headache!

Well, I think we're all in agreement, ALL video output connections should work - adapter or not, but ESPECIALLY if no adapter is in the equation.

Can you imagine... it's like having a Blu-Ray player with a non-functioning HDMI port, and then being told that you needed to use a Composit (RCA) to HDMI adapter in order to connect it to an HDTV.

My setup:

LG 32" Display with HDMI ports

HDMI1 has a mac mini 2014 which after more than 10 mins of sleep will NOT wake up monitor. Have to cycle through display input then it works

HDMI2 has a macbook pro 2013 connected for work - never had problem waking monitor

I previously had a mac mini 2010 connected as above and never had this issue

My case number is:

727454872

On phone with Apple Support now - fingers crossed!

I too am having trouble with my VGA to Mini Display Port. It is connected to a projector that does not wake up after the Mac goes to sleep. My MacBook Air wakes the projector up fine from sleep. I have talked to many Apple Care Senior Advisors and non of them have been able to help. My monitor wakes up fine. It is connect through an HDMI to DVI cable. So I am not sure what the problem is from.

Returned Mac Mini today. Ludicrously busy store so didn't get to really chit chat about the problem. I'll just check the forums until people confirm problem is solved. Just to be clear... can others please help just confirm the rest of the following?

MM HDMI > Monitor HDMI = Sleep/Wake Issue

MM Mini DP > Monitor Mini DP = OK

MM Mini DP > Monitor VGA = ?

MM Mini DP > Monitor DVI = ?

MM Mini DP > Monitor HDMI = ?
