why does my iPad Air 2 make loud pop noise randomly, when touching the screen, closing smart case cover, placing cursor in input text field?

I've be using my exchanged iPad Air 2 for almost a week now. It does the same as the original one did. Every once in a while I hear a pop that sounds like a small static discharge just like the first one did. I've decide to keep it even though it has the problem. I hope it's software, but something makes me think it has to do with the hardware. It only does it maybe once every few days. I thought I saw another post that some wrote they had a similar problem with a first generation iPad Air.

I also posted to the place where you report bugs to Apple about this problem.

Is there a different part number on the 2 new iPads that you got that were produced later that do not have the popping problem ?

I also was hoping it was software. I exchanged my first one back in October and my second one still has the problem. Not often, but enough to be a concern for something this expensive and from what you wrote is a hardware problem aknowledged by Apple.

I'm way out of the 14 day exchange window for the second one. Wonder if Apple will institute some type of special exchange program to enable people to exchange for the newer produced ones without the hardware problem.

Sadly, I am on my 3rd iPad Air 2 since Christmas. I am ready to scream. I just got this one last week....and it's been popping all week. Not constantly....but at least once or twice a day. Going to start the exchange routine once again. Im going to tell them if they can't supply me with one that isnt defective.....to replace it with the first Air. I'm really am tired of this. Nearest Apple store to me is an hour away.

Why does my ipad air 2 make a loud "pop" sound every few hours?

I'm getting the same sound a couple to a few times a day. I have also noticed same thing on my iPhone 6. I'm thinking it is an ios 8.1 issue.

I just found the update and downloaded on to my iPad with iTunes. It's very easy to do there are YouTube videos that will show you how if anyone would like to try.

I did, 8.1.1 does not solve it. I was hoping it would fix it, it didn't so i returned mine.

Just to be absolutely clear, a *recording* of the popping sound comes through clearly on headphones. I haven't been able to get a popping sound on headphones using the iPad itself. In fact, the keyboard noise is super quiet on my headphones. My guess is the headphone jack mixes the sounds differently, and may be on a separate output from the speakers. Thoughts?

My 15 day return runs out on Saturday, for you guys that are running out of time what do you plan on doing? Hold out and hope it's software and can be patched or return and get money back. I've already had two that do it so I do not see the point on exchanging another one.I also installed the ios 8.1.1 beta and poping still happens.

what's the point of exchanging so many ipad in such a short time frame? It will take Apple a few week to fix and test the solution. They produce millions of ipads, they cannot just apply a fix and see if it works, they have to be 99.999% sure. Exchanging now is a waste of time.

Has anyone updated to the IOS 8.1.1 and noticed if the popping noise has went away ? I updated the other day and haven't noticed it since the update, but I would only notice the noise in the previous IOS maybe once every few days.

My new iPad Air 2 which I just received last Wednesday has the same problem of popping sound... Knowing users here with replacement still having the same issue, not sure if I should get mine exchanged or else....

So sad with this purchase that having such large scale issue unsolved after going on market for some time...

My iPad Air 2 is currently doing the same thing I just purchased it a couple weeks ago and every now and then it makes the loud popping noise. My iPad is the 64 gb gold ipad air 2. Its past the store warranty and if this is a hardware issue i will have to exchange it with apple. I live 250 miles from the closest apple store sadly so I will have to use their online service which means I will be without an iPad for some time, I really dont want to do that I hope this is a software issue and i hope they fix it.

Could you update us on the status of your replacement iPad? I'd be curious to know if it still pops.
