imac won't play DVDs in Yosemite
Since I upgraded to Yosemite DVDs won't play. I put one in. It makes a wheezing noise and spits all disks back out. What is the problem/solution?
iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.2)

New to this thread so pardon me if I am out of order.
I just had my 3TB replaced under the Apple replacement program. Very local Apple deal;er so lucky in that respect. Restored Yosemite from Time Machine successfully and then tried a number of times to re-install Windows 7. My Superdrive seems to be OK and I have used both a USB2 stick and a USB3 stick to download the Windows stuff onto. When I use BCA, what happens is that it gets about a third of the way through then slows to an apparent stop. I leave it and then it goes on to about two-thirds of the way and then has stopped there for over 24 hours. The first time this happened I took it back to the dealer who not only reformatted the 3TB drive but also used my Time Machine to re-install (successfully) Yosemite. Now I have tried to reinstall W7 again and exactly the same thing has happened. I was due to get w10 but have no idea how to proceed.
My first question is has anyone who has had their HDD replaced, under the recent free replacement program, been able to install Windows? My second is where do I go from here?
I have a PC with an Nvidia GTX970 whereas my late 2013 full spec iMac only has a GTX680M but I love the 27 inch screen for X-Plane and Elite:Dangerous. I use windows on the iMac because X-Plane seems to perform better than in Yosemite but I guess I could do without Windows on the iMac at a push.
Sorry - make that late 2012 iMac!
Same here since upgrading to Yosemite it tries to read DVDs and them spits them out my Late 2010 MacBook Pro, regular cds working fine.
Are you telling me, that Apple disabled DVD plays in Yosemite?
I bought MacMini 2010 as HTPC just because it has drive for playing DVDs!
Since I upgraded to Yosemite, it just "check" DVD for 10-15 seconds and that kick it out.
Is there any bugreport for this? Or should I establish one?
Established bugreport no. 22434777 will keep inform you about Apple engineers replies.
I upgraded two different Mac computers to Yosemite two days apart and neither one accepts blanc DVDs after the upgrade. Both were working fine before the upgrade. Music CDs work okay. They mount and I"m able to import into iTunes. This appears to be integral with the Yosemite OS and is quite a problem since I'm in the business of authoring CDs and DVDs as a videographer. Where is Apple Support on this matter?
I am wondering if it has something to do with the type of DVD. Since every company is looking for a way to get paid on every function, it appeared that certain television series were the ones that were not playing. Perhaps some company has coded their DVD to not play. I mean, they can't make any money if we got the DVD from the library.
its 2016, has apple solved this issue?
Hi there, did you ever get this problem fixed? now I have the same problem and can't find an answer. Need your help.
Same here since upgrading to yosemite my piece of ***** won't play dvd's why don't apple do something about it.
