After upgrading to Yosemite the graphics is laggy and also WindowServer is hogging CPU.
I've tried http://www.macissues.com/2014/10/20/prevent-the-windowserver-process-from-draggi ng-yosemite-down/ without any luck

Hi, try this: Disable the "Display have separate Spaces" in Mission Control
LogOff and Login again, check the process...

I actually got this solved alreday, don't remember how.
perfect - thanks - this worked for my 2008 macbook running a cinema display. windowserver cpu is back down to a few percent and only increases for a while whilst things are being updated on the screen as I would expect it to.
My macbook is back to a decent performance now
I did all that, and windowserver is still at the top of the Activity Monitor, currently over 70%....
