Disable battery usage by app

With the iOS8 upgrade, I can now track battery usage by app, but is there any way to disable this feature?

No.

So it's not always possible to be honest and remain married.

But it's a whole lot easier if you don't cheat on your spouse.

Really, that’s private information. Stop digging in and tell us whether you can or not. -_-

Really? You come to a 3 year old thread, about iOS 8 which is 4 major iOS version ago, with all of the discussion and pick me to chastise? To answer your question, no, you cannot.

And they completely ignored my admonition not to be a cheating spouse!

I don't mean to be rude, but for those of you who just didn't seem to get it from previous comments, there are times in life where specific apps you are using would lead to unfortunate conversations in your personal life if this information was seen by individuals close enough to you to know your passwords. (ex. Your in a longstanding relationship, but you use hookup apps. OR you told your parents you were studying but you were on facebook OR you and your spouse are into a fetish lifestyle, you don't want your kids to know, but they have access to your phone).

It is easy to say "change your password," but that might be considered abnormal or suspicious behavior which would lead to equally awkward conversations. Or "just be honest with people," but unfortunately we live in a bigoted world - even with your spouses. So it's not always possible to be honest and remain married. Or, you're in an abusive relationship where your phone usage is monitored and you'd like to use social media without the phone registering that you do. Regardless, of the reasons (these examples are moot) there should be a way to prevent people from viewing your usage if you don't want that information shared or viewable. We can hide downloaded apps, and clear histories. Why can't we do the same with our usage?

Thank you @IdrisSeabright for answering.

I'll agree that honest relationships are much easier (irrespective of cheating). 😀 However, regardless of the morality associated with our actions, these are not always obtainable for many in our society, but that's a debate best saved for a different forum. 🙂

If anyone does find a way, please let us know.

Meg: There is a passcode on the phone, that not the problem. I'd just like the ability to turn off a "feature" that's been added that may have implications that Apple didn't consider at first.

Chris: The "Fed-Talk" list is an e-mail distribution list focused on the Government (Federal & DoD) issues related to using Apple products in those environments. As you might imagine, we have some security requirements that go above what Apple provides by default at times. You can find more info on these types of discussion lists at "lists.apple.com".

Chris,

It's the metadata issue - you can find out quite a bit about a user's habits, activities, movements, etc.

Is this app usage info kept somewhere securely? How often is it flushed? Does it get sent to Apple? Can other apps tap into the info? etc...

It's not just a concern for this new feature.

The app itself might present other issues as well.

I understand issues about the apps, as well as understanding info that can be saved in metadata, but the battery usage is just calculating the battery usage by app against the total battery usage. While it may be part of the diagnostics data, you have the ability to turn off sending diagnostics to Apple. While I may be wrong, it isn't doing something about you using it, just how much battery is being consumed while the app is in use. I don't know that other apps would have access to that information, but then there are apps that can be used to calculate battery information, but I'm not sure how open that API is for accessing info.
