iPad air 2 pop noise

My iPad Air 2 randomly has a "Pop Noise" out of the speaker. it happens randomly about once or twice a day when touching the screen or pressing a button. Has anybody else experienced this issue? Could it be a software issue or has it more likely to do with the hardware?

I don't want to destroy your hope because I thought the same after the 8.1.1 update. Unfortunately, the pops came back after a while. They are less frequent now in my iPad under normal use. For instance, no pop when an input dialog box comes up, but there are still ways to get them when doing the "wrong" things.

It's really funny. I just downloaded the BinauralSleep app, opened it, hit the start button and got the popping noise immediately before the sound output from the app began. Stopped the app, startet again, stopped, started again - no pops anymore.

Well, before I downloaded the app my iPad was in standby since yesterday evening. Seems like something needed to get initialized.

Just out of curiosity why does everyone think it is software? I have returned three before getting one that does not make an arcing pop noise. The software in the same hardware but no popping noise. I have had it for going on three weeks now and I was wondering why software that is in almost 225,000,000 iPads and millions more iPhones and they are not popping.

I will give you a hint. The ones that make an arcing pop noise have loose leads in the screen. In addition 'they' (Intel) think there is a problem with the processor and 2GB RAM chips. The exact same thing is happening the new Nexus pad.

Because hardware issues are more consistent. It takes software to be so random. It started with IOS 8. You won't get arcing with 5 volts and low power. You won't get arcing without causing other random failures as the that arced energy is denied to components that need it or damages components it arcs to.

I understand how none technical people can't see the difference. If it was loose connections you could recreate it by shaking, bumping or flexing. We can recreate this issue by "purely" software testing; many of us can cause this just touching an icon to open an app.

Now all that said, it is somewhat related to hardware in that the speed and multithreaded hardware is not being implemented correctly by bad software. That's the confusing part.

Also, those who laughed at my idea of a class action lawsuit should reconsider, mainly bec Apple continues to deny there is an issue.

I agree wholeheartedly. It is absolutely a software issue. The first person who said that was on 9-to-5 Mac.

To the people who think the noise has subsided, I feel like you aren't using your iPad Air 2 as much as I do. It is my main computer in that I use it every single day until the battery runs out completely and it shuts itself down. I charge it every night back to 100%

Since our use it so frequently, I'm obviously more prone to the popping noises and there hasn't been a single day since launch day that I haven't experienced it. And it's not the only software issue I'm facing although this is a separate topic. My keyboard still appears in portrait while I am in landscape especially in Spotlight search, my volume tends to increase and decrease slightly every now and then while listening to music (probably not noticeable to a casual user) and I can't buy anything in the App Store because the password dialogue is off the screen. And no, I can't use touch ID to buy apps because I need to input my password because the iPad has been reset since its last use.

And right on schedule while speaking of the devil, a loud pop from the speakers while typing. Fantastic. Lastly, to those thinking the pop sound isn't coming from the speakers, you should be aware that the speaker is different in the second iPad Air, it causes more vibration and is louder as well as seemingly outputting sound from the body of the Device as well as the speaker grill. This is causing you to think it's coming from the centre of the unit. It isn't.

Another annoying software issue I get on the iPad Air 2 is Safari locks up and you have to rotate to portrait mode and then back t landscape to free it up. I see all of the other issues you mentioned as well. In general IOS 8 is poor.

Just take how badly responding on this forum works. It's horrible.

DDon't know but when I returned mine Apple refused to acknowledge the issue even as I should them the community threads and demonstrated the arcing pop noise. It never happened as most are saying it just would pop at at different times. When it popped in front of the Apple store Manger she took it to the back and came back with another new one After a fairly long wait. She stated there was a hardware problem and she hoped that this new one would not have the same issue. Of course it did so I returned it the following day to the same manger and she took it and offered another one I said okay but this is ridiculous and Apple is ignoring that there is an arcing issue with in their new iPads and she simply handed me another iPad Air 2 and said she hopes for the best.

AFter a couple of weeks it started to pop. I was not able to reproduce the popping noise it would just pop. I then placed a voltage meter to the chassis and when it popped the meter spiked. That is a clear sign it is hardware. I returned the iPad Air 2 for a refund.

I Read prior to the iPads release that Apple was having production issues with the new iPad and they were thinking on releasing them in February or later.

Recently I read that the nexus was having the same issue but it was an issue with the SnapDragon Processor. Intel has amitted to not spending enough time and money on the mobile market and they are swinging in that direction.

WHat hat all this tells me is every time Apple denies this issue they look incompetent and insensitive towards their customers. Regardless of the fiscal year they are making a huge mistake by ignoring this issue.

I Am not only very disappointed with their new iOS and OS I am even more disappointed in their new products including the iPhone. They have turned their backs to their customers and shook the hands of the stock holders all while bragging about their great software and new products. None of which are working right.

Now as a business team member I have decided to start to look in another direction then Apple. I strongly believe in the power of boycotting and that is why I took the third iPA2 back for a refund. I am going to wait until they correct this hardware issue and judge how they manage the Sapphire crystal issue they are dealing with as far as the Apple Watch goes.

I believe that the new screen on the iPA2s is part of the issue along with the new A8X and the 2 GB of RAM. I also do believe that there are software issues but that is iOS 8 period. It is a very flawed and glitchy iOS but it is not the reason for this arcing pop noise. I was lucky because I bought my first iPad Air 2 the first week in November and that is when Apple extends their 14 day unconditional warranty to 30 days due to the holidays. As a result I had a longer trial period to really test the devise and research this issue and then I made the decision to return it for a refund.

What I found is there are problems with the mobile processors and higher RAM mobile devices and it is not just an Apple issue. I have said this several times Apple said there was not a problem with the toshiba RAM and after a long battle they recalled them then they said there was not a problem with the batteries in the iPhone 5 and after another battle there is a recall on those then the home button issue, prior was the antenna issue. The list goes beyond mentioned and it is just the way Apple works. They build these things for around $110.00 a piece in a factory in China. They take every iPad that is returned and "repair" it and resell it in other countries as new and in the US as refurbished. If you think about it they get two turns on one device. So the point is Apple does not care nor do they care if you know it.

NOw that they are teaming up with IBM there going to be everywhere because even Apple's worst software is a leap ahead of Google or Microsoft. As you can see at the beginning of a few sentences in this comment you see the double caps., that is because I am using an iOS iDevice, if I were to use my MBA it would not do that. Pretty funny but hey Tim Cook would rather be late then put a bad product out there. It is all high priced crap and they know it. I hate to say this but people waited for hours to buy it too. I really feel bad for those folks because they are stuck dealing with the Apple bureaucracy or hopefully they were one of the lucky ones that received a good device. All of mine were bad all my friends' were too. All my friends called Apple Care and talked to the Apple techs with Apple and all of them denied that they have heard of the problem. Software, hardware, and incompetent manufacturinG. Oh just another iO 8.1.1 bug.
