iPad air 2 pop noise

My iPad Air 2 randomly has a "Pop Noise" out of the speaker. it happens randomly about once or twice a day when touching the screen or pressing a button. Has anybody else experienced this issue? Could it be a software issue or has it more likely to do with the hardware?

I bought two, both popped. The sound came from the left side middle of both of the iPad Air 2's. the screen flickered from time to time and was not responsive. It popped when ever I scrolled through it or while I was on the Internet, using design apps! sending emails, it popped intermediatly. I called Apple Business Team and they said it sounds like a hardware issue and I could mail it back or take it to an Apple Store for a refund. They never mentioned an exchange. I took them to an Apple Store they said it is a Hardware issue and apologized then they offered me a refund. I bought an MacBook Air 13", i7. A nice addition to our company.

I Received a follow up call a few days ago from an iOS Senior Advisor and they suggested now is a good time to buy an iPad Air 2. We went and picked up two. So far no problems. We both use them for work. Sun up to sun down and then some; and no flickering, pops, blank screens, or just glitchy stuff what so ever. Well, besides the regular glitchy 8.1.1 stuff. We were told we have 30 day's instead of 14 due to the "holiday" return policy so we will be putting them to the test. We have a lot of events to coordinate so we will be really pushing them. We use a lot of graphic design apps and communicate quite a bit with them with our clients and employees so we really love the continuity. If all goes well we will upgrade our employees iPad Mini 3's.

One last point if it was a software issue Apple would have a fix by now. Try to remember software fixes especially firmware or drivers are easy fixes and if it were the speakers why would Apple deny that. Point is we had the exact same problem but we took it straight back to Apple and we never mentioned speakers just the facts. There is a popping noise coming From the back left middle, and the screen was unresponsive and they flickered, etc... They took them to the back and straight away stated quit plainly it was a hardware issue.

WHen you call Apple and tell them the speakers are not working correctly and you send it in to Apple they will look at the speakers due to how their repair center operates and if it is not they will return it due to there is not a problem with the speakers. But if you tell them all of the problems associated with your device they will check all those things. That is how they work. Keep in mind they have thousands of returned product for repairs not to mention refurbished devices.

I Wish everyone the best and please don't shoot the messenger and if Apple is denying this is a problem oh well, that is their issue. If you decided to hang on to your popping device well I hope the very best for you and maybe you can convince Apple to refund or exchange it. I believe the best advice to give someone regarding this issue is to return it. Keeping a broken device doesn't help you or the system.

It sounds like you have had a great conclusion. One comment however. While I would think those who have experienced popping (I haven't) should return their devices, it's likely premature to say if they are hardware or software related. But your comment stating if it is software, Apple would already have a fix isn't necessary correct. Apple works behind the scenes in their ways and sometimes it takes a while for an upgrade to address certain issues, like this.

Again, I'm glad you like your Mac and two new Air 2's!

My Situation? What Situation? I don't have a situation as my Air 2 works perfectly. Maybe you should reread what I said. I was commenting to another poster who said that if it is a software issue, Apple should have a solution for it by now. My comment was more about the fact that while Apple works behind the scenes, if it is software related, an iOS release would come at some point.

And Happy Holiday's to you.

Hi Everyone,

I'm Marco from Italy and I'm one of the most that had this issue.

I bought an iPad Air 2 64 GB Space Gray on the 22th of Nomveber and after two days it started to make the weird, boring and crazy pop noise that came from the bottom of the iPad.

I went back to the Apple Store for an exchange and they gave me a new iPad 2 Air (I personally opened the box so I'm 100% sure that was a new iPad).
Everything works fine for a week but yesterday, after a full change with the 10W included charger, the iPad started to pop every time I clicked on the safari search bar or when I tried to play a video or a sound so I decided to return to the Apple Store and get the money back.

I went to the Apple Store in Rimini this morning (10 AM Italy time) and I told to the Genius that I want my money back, he spoke with the manager and they re-cash me the iPad and the iPad cover directly on the Credit card.

I don't know if it's an hardware or software issue but I don't want a broken or malfunctioned iPad that cost me 599€ + 79€ of case: I want a perfect product with any broken parts.

I talked with the genius and he told me that 8 of 10 iPads come back for this issue and he think that the other ones don't come back because people doesn't care or doesn't understand that is an issue ...

I'm really disappointed about this issue and I won't buy another one: they lost a customer.

Sorry for my english but I decided to share my story (maybe it could help someone).

Have a nice day.

Marco

I can understand if you were disappointed. But it sounds like Apple was very accommodating when they replaced your iPad, and subsequently fully refunded the iPad and Case. And yet, you say they've lost a customer?

I also find it a little suspect that the Apple Genius told you 8 out of 10 Air 2's are returned for popping noises? I have a very good friend who works at the Apple Store in my town and he could only recall one, maybe two iPad's returned for this. They were exchanged and neither has returned. I also have a lot of friends who have Air 2. Not one of them have any issues with Popping Noises, just like I don't.

If I buy something new I deserve a perfect product without any problems.

Apple is forced by law to change my iPad or to refund me in the first 14 days without any explanation, they didn't done nothing special.

I need an iPad but I can't go to the Apple store every week (it's 50 miles from my home) so they lost an (iPad) customer, I won't buy any iPad from now on.

I think that you're lucky or (maybe this is the true) there are some stocks that are having this issue ... or maybe it's all a software problem but I can't wait for a software update.

This is my opinion, I respect yours.

Bye

I couldn't agree more that you have every right to expect a product without flaw. I was just saying that it appears you were treated with respect, so saying they've lost a customer seems a bit harsh. If you had been treated rudely and they refused to replace your device (they did replace it) or refund your purchase (they did refund you), you'd have more of a gripe.
