iPad air 2 pop noise

My iPad Air 2 randomly has a "Pop Noise" out of the speaker. it happens randomly about once or twice a day when touching the screen or pressing a button. Has anybody else experienced this issue? Could it be a software issue or has it more likely to do with the hardware?

I just received my iPad Air 2 and have the same popping. I have a few apps that my colleague and I developed in the App store that now have an additional pop at certain parts, but it is not always consistent.

My Colleague thinks this might be "Clipping" where attempts to deliver output that can cause distortion. I am probably going to see if another model in store does it but if it is in clipping then this might be more of a software problem. I say this because of the EQ settings where too much of a signal is being created than the amp can handle so the signal gets cut or clipped.

Made an appointment today with the Genius Bar like I did 3other times because I have 3 exchanged units for the popping problem. He looked at it for a sec went to the back to talk to the manager and came back and said our manager is having the same problem with the popping. He said I should hold on to it for another month because a software update will be coming out soon. If that update doesn't work then I will exchange it.

I'm pretty well convinced now that it is to do with the " ringer and alerts system" in the sounds section of settings that operates alerts and keyboard sounds. Since muting this with the slider the pops have not been heard. This is different from the regular volume controlled audio which you use when playing videos etc which can be used as normal. Try it on mute using the slider (you don't have to turn off the green "change with buttons" button) and check if it is the same for you. If it is related to this still not sure whether it points to a software or hardware issue.

this is my 3rd iPad Air 2 now.. The ringer and alerts is a different kind of pop, it just makes the sound louder so on keyboard it clicks louder.. This popping noise is as y earlier video shows, when fully charged and left on charge I opened the video camera and immediately first popping noise, this has happened on all 3 defices it's something to do with the power causing the popping

I just got back from Best Buy to test their new model.

They had both an iPad Air and Air 2.

I decided to compare both and their Air 2 did the same thing.

My comparison for both devices was the following:

Step 1) Start Playing Music by going to itunes and sampling a song

Step 2) Go to Settings => Music => Eq

Step 3) Select 'Late Night' or Jazz and Toggle back between the two

Comparing two devices

On the iPad Air 2 When doing that the sound cuts out and a "Pop" noise in made

One the iPad Air When doing the above steps the sound cuts out but NO pop.

If you select other EQ Settings such as classical or Electronic, there is no cut out or pop in either device.

So my guess is when the software is switching the signal that is sent based on the users setting such as Jazz,

is too much for the component so it cuts out.

The component on the iPad Air doesn't pop and just pauses for the split second but on the iPad Air 2 the component must be weaker or can only handler a smaller signal and the OS sends a signal that is considerably beyond the maximum, causing the "popping sounds" we are experiencing.

So I don't think anything is broken but rather a component for whatever reason is not sufficient enough to handle the signal being sent

and it gets worse on the Air 2 and causes popping.

Not sure if a patch can fix it or it will come down to returning or living with it.

It I think the pop you are hearing when you do this"test" is very different than the pop experienced by users who actually have/had the popping problem. I exchanged my iPad that had the popping noise for a new one that does not. I can get a minor popping noise with my new iPad by doing what you described, but the noise is very different in that it's not as loud and doesn't sound like a static discharge. I would not worry about this minor pop noise brought about by switching EQ modes while listening to audio. The actual problem that people are having appears to be a hardware issue and is not dependent on audio being played or changed.
