My iPad Air 2 randomly has a "Pop Noise" out of the speaker. it happens randomly about once or twice a day when touching the screen or pressing a button. Has anybody else experienced this issue? Could it be a software issue or has it more likely to do with the hardware?

Just to let you guys know, as I told before I did exchange my first "zapper" to a new one. I have now used the new one quite extensively for over a week and have experienced no zaps what so ever.
I looked up the production weeks for both and the first one was actually a week newer than this second one that is working properly. The first one was made on week 40 and the second one on week 39, both at China Foxxconn.
Mine is week 41 and popping. Lets see if we can find a pattern

The two I exchanged were week 42 one DL one DM. The third which seems to be ok is also week 42 and factory DM...weird
Does any one experience this problem while using iOS 8.1.1?
I'm assuming everyone has tried doing a restart with the Sleep & Home buttons?
I ask because I tried that and (knock on wood) haven't heard a pop since.
I don't know if that helped anything or if I'm just overdue for the next pop. I'll post back if I hear it again.
I spoke too soon. After a week of no zapping noise it happened twice last night.
Mine is week 39 can't find the serial number for the replacement I sent back for the same fault.
Considering a number of people have set up as new a second time without fixing this fault I doubt a reset will help but I'll give it a go and report back. Due to the extremely intermittent nature of this fault it could be over a week though.
Your noise seems more metallic
i did another full recharge and at 100% i was not able to reproduce. It seems to do it between 95-99%. Have you got this issue at all?
You guys are confusing the situation. It has nothing to do with the battery in my experience. It's a pure coincidence. My popped loudly yesterday at 64% battery and not on mains power. It's completely random
That sounds like a bell "ding" to me, not at all like the sharp electrical zap sound my ipad makes.
No, there was a ding because I pressed the microphone icon to speak. That's when it popped really loudly and always does. I was only pressing the button to replicate the pop sound. Yes, it also pops at random times and sounds like cracks, snaps or pops… Basically any breakfast cereal character names
