Yosemite Finder bug, folders get unresponsive in icon view

I recently bought mid 2014 Retina Macbook Pro (13 inch) and immediately installed OS X Yosemite. I've noticed that, when I sometimes open Finder, I can't see i.e. my Applications in Applications folder in icon view. It shows me empty directory but when I switch to the list view it's all working.

Sometimes sleep/wake operation helps to repair that problem but not always. Just Finder gets unresponsive.

Is there any solution for this problem?

Atomalbert: At your suggestion I tried the same thing on my new 5k iMac that is about 1 week old and had this problem from day 2 ,always in icon view. For what it's worth, I ran your idea and I've been using it for about 30 minutes and it has not done the problem once. It seems to have fixed it so far.

Separately, over the past 48 hours I decided to create a second user profile on my system and slowly introduce the same software I had before. Using that method, my finder on the other profile has been working perfectly. I don't understand what caused my first profile to have this problem if it's truly just a software bug. That is, wouldn't the same bug be present on a second profile? The same software looks like actually just copies over anyway when creating a profile. I haven't actually used every software in the same exact way or as long as I did on the first profile so it may yet screw me up.

I could be wrong but I think my trouble started during video editing a bunch of files.

I triple checked while typing this email and your solution is still working for me. I know this was not working correctly at all before your solution.

Well I feel like a big idiot but I need to fess up...ha. When I ran the proposed solution, I was in my fake/second profile I created that has been working good all along. That's why the files weren't on my desktop.

So, I logged in to the bad profile of mine where the Finder has not been working. Ran this proposed solution and same problem. Didn't work. Finder not updating as I switch folders or folders show with the block/black letters.

Sorry.

It might be to early to declare victory, but at least the problem did not occur for two or three days now (I did restart only once, though, as for the rest of the time the iMac was in sleep mode, so everything has to be taken with a grain of salt).

I thought that the problem did not occur initially after switching to Yosemite, so I tried to race back what kind of software installs etc. I did afterwards. Here is what I came up with:

  • removed MenuMeters from Preference Panes (V 1.7 I guess)
  • installed iStatMini from the AppStore as it should provide similar functionality as MenuMeters in the notification center
  • updated the Wacom driver to Wacom Tablet Driver 6.3.10-2
  • I had no clear evidence that this was cause but I removed iStat Mini from the Notification Center... I remembered that I had some weird problems with iStat Menus (iStat Menus 5.03)some time ago, so this a kind of 80% blind troubleshooting attempt
  • and installed the latest version of MenuMeters 1.8.1

And that's it.

So the question is, I guess, does anybody here use a combination of

  • MenuMeters
  • iStat or iStatMini
  • Wacom driver

so that the culprit can either narrowed down (or the theory rejected...)

UPDATE: I also removed the Deliveries widget from the Notification Center, btw, as it nagged me by continuously asking for access to the keychain.
