Yosemite OS UI animation lag

Hello,

I recently updated my 2013 15" retina Macbook to Yosemite and I experience incredibly large lag on the OS UI animations.

The animations stutter badly and sometime even freeze.

While all OS animations stutter, here are the worst ones (since I usually perform them very frequently):

* changing between workspaces (3 finger left right swipe)

* showing all workspace windows (3 finger up swipe)

Does anybody know how to fix this?

I found the main reason for lag: It is not because the resolution. With SwitchResX you can use HiDPI. The x1280 do not use HiDPI, but with this app you can use x1200 with HiDPI or without it. If you use HiDPI, there is the lag. So the MBP simply too slow for this DPI. Without HiDPI you get slower quality images. Thats it. Graphics will be less nice, but you won't notice any lag.

Just ran into the issue here on 10.10.2 MBR early 2013. I was wondering if it had any issue to do with the new graphics issue that was posted.

Only started seeing issues after upgrading to Yosemite. Kind of wished I didn't rush and backed up Mavericks.

- swirls, UI Lag, other lag like watching videos after upgrade

- The last incident, my FAN's were going crazy (something to do with GPU?)

- Something intermittently happens with my battery life. Last night I opened at 48%, had a shower and it was 7%. No I don't shower for hours 😉

One main change since upgrading is using external monitors more.

AT the moment, I am finding I am rebooting almost every few days instead of every few weeks.

Wireless intermittently stalls still too. Please work Hard apple!

Don't know if there's a way we can gather more info to help diagnose the issue. I did read about windows server issues but not sure how to go about things there so will wait.

I've been having the same issue and just discovered the trick of setting "Increase Contrast". So far that's the only thing that makes the Yosemite UI smooth for me, and I've tried everything else that's been suggested in this thread and more. Unfortunately the UI is kind of ugly with increase contrast turned on, so I really, *REALLY* hope Apple fixes this issue and soon.

Same problem over here with Animation UI Lag. Still not solved. The only fix seems to be increasing the contrast, but then the UI looks so ugly that I don't want to do that.

Thought I'd add something for people who want to see the increase contrast 'fix'. I've got a late 2013 15" rMBP (discrete & integrated), running 10.10.3 with resolution set to 1680x1050. I did a short video of the difference between standard yosemite, reducing transparency, and then adding increased contrast. It's remarkable how big a difference there is between the 3. I noticed almost no improvement when "reducing transparency", but checking off "increased contrast" feels just like my old 2011 13" running mavericks.

There are 2 major flaws with the early 2015 rMBP 13" I've been having: UI lag, and inconsistent caps lock button. I plan to return this machine since I lacks poor structure and might get one once apple developers have fixed the issue, but what I've been reading online, there is no apparent fix to this problem. My mid 2013 MB air 11" (had for about 2 years now) has absolutely no lag and oddly operate "smoother" with all the keys working. So it's best not to waste time and I advice against the early 2015 macbook products until architecture is there. Hope this helps anyone researching for a new laptop.

The UI lag is still very much present. I am on a 15 inch 10.10.3. Yosemite Mac. The UI lag is all over the place, not only in mission control. Even the animations to minimize windows, everything lags. The quality of Mac OS is decreasing rapidly. None of the solutions mentioned here work. The lag returns after one or two days of use.
