Can't connect to share file from my windows XP after upgrade to Yosemite

I have set up file sharing between my iMac & windows XP, it was working fine before. After I upgrade to Yosemite, I can't access the file from my XP to iMac ! But it is ok from my iMac to XP. I have share folder on both machines share it to each other. I am using workgroup network "Mshome", no domain. In my XP I can see the iMac computer on my network, but overtime I check on it it prompt username & password. I try enter the username & password of my iMac account it won't work. Since Yosemite now don't have short username anymore. I even create a new account name to try but still not able to connect.

The previous set up I have the same account name & password for both iMac & XP, it will connect directly when I turn on the machines.

I do remember when I first setting up it, on my XP username login I need to put some different with the username, but I didn't write it down or record it. Can anyone tell me how to I connect again to my iMac ?

Thanks for you help!

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10)

After search the internet for days, reading all the posts! I find the answer ! In your XP machine do the following

  1. Click Start
  2. Click Control Panel
  3. Click System and Maintenance
  4. Click Administrative Tools
  5. Double-Click Local Security Policy
  6. In the left pane, click the triangle next to Local Policy
  7. In the left pane, click Security Options
  8. In the right pane near the bottom, double-click "Network security: LAN manager authentication level"
  9. Click the drop-down box, and click "Send NTLMv2 response only"
  10. Click OK

By changing the LAN Manager authentication level to "Send NTLMv2 response only", magically everything now works as it should!

Thank you, thank you, thank you. For others reading this, my problem was that I could connect to my shared drive on my Mac, but was getting denied by permissions. Changed this XP registry incompatibility level to 5 (from 3 where it was previously) and immediately started working. This was not a problem until upgrading to Yosemite osx 10.10.
