Yosemite - login screen on low res

save my day!

I also have FileVault turned on and I have this same issue mentioned on the topic. I also believe the issue is FileVault + "More Space" screen resolution.

I had posted time ago some more info at another post:

I'm getting the same issue too.

I have tried

- resetting opt+cmd+R+P cmd at startup

- plugging into external cinema display to reset the resolution

Issue still persist. I have the new macbook pro 2015 early model. I have to say after purchasing a $2499 laptop I'm a little bit disappointed to hear this issue has been on going for 2014 without a fix

Will there be a solution in sight?

The following keys on the keyboard: Option, Command (⌘), P, and R worked for me.

guys, how do we get apples attention on this? I have tried the following and it's still not fixed

* PRRAM reset

* experiment with external monitor settings while plugged in

* safe mode resolution reset

* file vault is not turned on

* installed 10.10.2 and 10.10.3 as fresh copies

out of ideas here.

It is pretty easy to change actually:

Enable the root user (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204012)

Then logoff and login as root, also described in this document.

Then change your resolution.

Logoff an login as normal and disable the root user again.

Be careful when you login as root user because this is the most powerful user and you can damage your system. So backup first!!!!

I just gave that a go. Followed it completely without success unfortunately.

Got the same issue on my 13" Retina Mid 2014.

It's only when I select More space (1680x1050) this issue is reproducible.

If I select 1440x900, then the bootscreen and login screen are at the proper resolution.

Tried resetting PRAM, reinstalling OS... nothing helped. Also have the same model at work with the same problem.

Add one more user is who's being driven mental by this.

Remember when buying a new mac meant that it worked better and more smoothly than your old one?

Tried all possibilities but problem not resolved...

I had same issue with Mac (27-inch, Late 2009) [no external monitor] after upgrading to Sierra. Resetting PRAM: no results. I had launched the update thru screen sharing and had to lower resolution on iMac to help readability. Lower resolution was modified for all accounts after update, including logon screen. The upgrade processes run as root and the login window too. I logged as root which was already enabled an logged out to fixed this very annoying issue. Had to change resolution settings in all accounts too.

BTW: root should NOT usually be enabled on a home computer running MacOS. It may make some sense in some entreprise. I have now disabled root user.
