iTunes 12 for iMac won't recognize any devices

Just upgraded to iTunes 12. Now none of my device (iPhone 6, iPhone 5, iPad, iPod) are recognized. All. Connections are good, never had an issue before. Tried uninstallIngrid but iMac won't let me delete iTunes to reinstall. All settings are good and have tried powering off and on.

I can only get the devices to be recognised by rebooting, which I never normally do. I like to leave my iMac on.

What happens is that after that when I detach devices iTunes 12 thinks they are still attached. So I eject them. Then when I attach them again they are not recognised.

So reboot again.. and again... and again each time you eject a device.

I agree with many others on this. I do not think this is a cable issue, or a USB issue, although it may be a conflict with other installed software. I am running the latest Yosemite 10.10 and iTunes 12.0.1.26. I am running Dropbox, PopChar, Typinator, 1Password, Keycue, OneDrive. If I leave my computer running for a while, iTunes will not recognize any device (I have 2 iPads, one iPhone and an iPod touch) either over USB or wifi. Unplugging and plugging back in doesn't work. Luckily I have an indication that this is going to happen, because iTunes takes forever to launch (and strangely so does Safari) on those occasions where it won't recognize devices. I simply restart and everything works properly (including the applications launching quickly as they should). But this is clearly not a solution; it is a temporary workaround. Anybody have any suggestions?

It's likely NOT the cable! My wife is having same problem, and we know her USB cable is OK because iPhoto does open when her iPhone 4 is connected via that cable.

But iTulnes 12.0.1 just doesn't show any Devices icon at all. Restarting, etc., as indicated in the often-cited official Apple troubleshooting doc does utterly nothing to fix the problem. There's a bug in iTunes 12 and Apple refuses to admit and fix it.

Repairing disk permissions did NOT fix the problem, ever after restarting.

Curiously, iTunes was showing an iPad when it was attached by the same USB cable as the iPhone. Moreover, as soon as the iPhone was attached, iTunes 12 would automatically open -- but no devices icon and no way to see the iPhone there.

Here's the treatment that worked:

  1. Force iPhone power-down (hold down On/Off button together with Home button until the Apple logo appears.
  2. Force-close a couple dozen iPhone apps (tap Home button two times, find app icon at bottom then swipe up on that app's preview to close it).

So my diagnosis is that this was a memory problem (or a file-handle problem, if iOS uses such things as file handles)..

I installed many 64-bit versions of iTunes 11 after iTunes 12 failed to recognize my iPhone 4S and iPad Air. My iDevice keeps making 'ding' sound. After much frustration, I tried to use the original Apple USB sync cable. Everything works fine now.

Change cable and try. Good Luck

PS: Do not use USB extension cable with Apple USB sync cable to sync with iTunes. It will not work

I have an Ipod nano (2nd generation) which I still use a lot for some purposes. I doesn't show up anywhere in Itunes. I've read the threads on this, I've done the obvious including repairing disk permissions and it still won't show up. Very disappointed in Apple with this.

Since it's such an old ipod there's no restart function on it, and you can only hook it up via cable.

Any advice?

I have some new music I want to listen to while commuting, so I am now using my SAMSUNG phone for this. Right now I think I made the right decision in opting for a Samsung and not an Apple phone.

Can't seem to get mine to work. I'm not sure if it's the same problem. For me my iPhone 6 running iOS 8.1 is connected to my MacBook Pro running Yosemite, my iPhoto pops up. When i go into iTunes 12.0.1.26, my iPhone shows up in the toolbar as a greyed out icon which can't be selected. Anyone knows what the issue is?

Other info that might be relevant:

1. I'm able to sync my iPad on the same computer. iPad is running iOS 7.1.1

2. My friend's iPhone 6 connects to my iTunes with black selectable icon.

3. My iPhone 6 is able to connect to my friend's computer running the same configuration with a black selectable icon too.

4. I have repaired permissions, restarted my iPhone and my MacBook to no avail.

5. Switched cables, not fixed.
