iTunes 12 for iMac won't recognize any devices

Just upgraded to iTunes 12. Now none of my device (iPhone 6, iPhone 5, iPad, iPod) are recognized. All. Connections are good, never had an issue before. Tried uninstallIngrid but iMac won't let me delete iTunes to reinstall. All settings are good and have tried powering off and on.

OOk. I'm having my dinner now. After dinner I will post here and show you the method I solved mine today. My iPhone 5s can't be detected by itunes on Windows or Mac. In Windows 8.1 it says USB not recognized and itunes can't detect my iPhone at all. In Mac, itunes can't detect as well. i managed to solved mine after 2 days struggling to solve this problem.

With all due respect, the solution you just mentioned makes absolutley no sense. I did what you said and it did not repair anything because according to my iMac(2014), there was nothing to repair, everything was good. But guess what? After I restarted my iMac, It solved my problem! How in the cybernetic world could this happened. Can any body explain that?

IOS 8.1, Iphone 6 just upgraded to iTunes 12 and similar problem. Grayed out iphone icon on top tried multiple cables, several programs am on the brink of updating software to 8.2 but don't want to have to do that. However can't even do that because it won't back up my phone. Tired of Apple constantly changing all the menu's and how you do some things we've done for years that worked fine. Apple if you would listen to your community you would have left iTunes the way it was and not changed up the menu's etc. You make a **** of a lot of work for us iphone, ipod, ipad users. When are you going to stop fixing things that aren't broke. I'm getting frustrated. You force us into upgrading, downloading, re-loading, syncing and syncing and syncing, managing data, music and lists. I'm on the brink of insanity. Stop for the sake of time in our lives we won't get back that we could be doing other more important things!!!!!

Same here but I did use the last version of iTunes I have never been experienced any problems until today. I just sent a few music files to my friend's iphone and then all of my apple devices are started to being not recognized(detected) by both iTunes and iPhoto. I really became obsessed about this problem I used four cables that worked perfectly before. Please help!!!

emirguven,

Uninstall the current iTunes you are using now. Before delete, remember to move your library folder to some place secure. Once you moved your Library folder to the secure place, you uninstall your current iTunes. Once you managed to Uninstall, go to download 1 version before iTunes 12. Install it and then your iTunes suppose able to sync your iPhone. Once your iPhone synced with your iTunes, do back up for your iPhone. Once iPhone back up, upgrade your iTunes to the current one and then do back up again. Your iTunes should be back to normal.

p/s: I will be here for another couples hours.

I've been using the sudo killall usbmuxd command to get iTunes to recognize my devices, but just ran into and resolved my first hiccup.

I had quit iTunes and run the command in Terminal, but when I tried to restart iTunes it would crash and take my internet connection down with it. Restarting the Mac would lead to the white screen of death, even through the entire night, forcing a manual power off and on cycle, which would allow internet connection again until I tried to launch iTunes. Starting iTunes in safe mode wouldn't help; it would continue to crash within moments of opening and crash the internet connection as well.

After searching a bit online, I found this solution: disconnect your Mac from the internet then restart iTunes. After it's fully up and running, reconnect to the internet and that seems to do the trick. Now iTunes seems to run smoothly and my devices even are showing up.

Anyway, thought I'd share in case anyone runs into the same problem.

Come on Apple, this is a truly ludicrous situation. I upgraded to 10.10.1 and iTunes 12.0.1 with the latest IOS on my iPhone and iPad. Repaired permissions, verified disks, restarted all devices etc. etc. - NO SIGN OF ANY DEVICES FOR SYNCING!

Looking at the posts this has been a problem for months so it really needs sorting out. Apple is supposed to be easy but after 30 years it seems to be getting a dose of the Windows ailment!

I struggled the whole day to download on my macbook pro, 2 recorded videos done with my iPhone 4. The macbook pro uses Yosemite. I had absolute no problem with the former OS X. Now I tried iPhoto, iVideo, iCapture, none of these saw my iPhone. iTune saw it but without any photos. I could see the music, uploaded videos, applications, but no photo...I also connected my iPhone 4 to an older macbook that uses Snow Leopard (iTune 11.x). Again, the same story, no photos. This time at least I got a message from the old OS: Camera not detected! I managed to download the 2 videos using a Windows PC. The iTune from the PC didn't see the photos, but Windows Explorer solved the problem. What can I say, I naturally hate Windows, but ha, ha this time it was better...

It's evening. I restarted my macbook pro and my iPhone 4 and reconnected using the same cable. This time iPhoto saw the iPhone and I downloaded my new photos/videos. iTune continues to display the iPhone content without Photo. iCapture didn't see my iPhone. I wonder which restart really worked.

Why do I have this problems with Yosemite/iTune 12?

ciderdave17,

you can try uninstall your iTunes 12 and install the iTunes 10/11. Once you install your iTunes 10/11, the iTunes will detect your iPhone. Once it detected, you back your iPhone in iTunes 10/11. After you have backup your iPhone, now you can upgrade back to iTunes 12 and your iTunes 12 will works like normal and remember to back up your iPhone in iTunes 12.

I was able to fix a problem where iTunes 12.01 on Mac OS X would not recognize my iPhone or iPad but the device WAS recognized in iPhoto.

Another website gave me the hint to download and re-install iTunes. (I also then restarted both the Mac and iPhone and iPad afterward for good measure).

Here is the URL for download:
