Motion 5 does not work with Yosemite?

I upgraded to Yosemite and suddenly Motion 5 and Compressor are no longer supported. I am not sure about Compressor, but Motion 5 is the latest version. I go to update in the App Store and get nowhere, just a spinning wheel. What gives?

Motion 5 is supported in Yosemite and runs quite well.

However, there is an issue with FxPlug3 plugins (MotionVFX mObject, CoreMelt plugins and a few others) that will cause Motion to quit unexpectedly. I had quite a time getting everything back up and running after I installed Yosemite. I had to re-install the plugins (and make sure they are updated to the latest version!) I also had to go into my Motion Templates folder and manually repair permissions for quite a few files (but there is a shortcut for that.) If you are the only user on your mac (and have only one user account in System Preferences > Users & Groups), then you probably will not have this issue. For me, however, I have about 3 other authorized users for this computer (but they don't have User "home" folders -- they just have permission to access this computer directly.) After the Yosemite install, all the templates that came with mObject had the user privileges changed to one of these other users and not the administration account that is mine. Changing all the permissions at once was just a matter of opening the top folder (Generators and Titles) and resetting the permissions (if necessary - the top level folders should be correct) and then selecting Apply to enclosed items... from the gear menu dropdown.

MotionVFX support suggested that you can go into the /Library/Plug-ins/FxPlug/ folder and double click to launch the items that look like apps: example, the icon for mObjectGenerator shown below:

User uploaded file

It will launch and immediately close, but the generator (in this case) will re-register itself in the system when launched and should repair its association with Motion and Final Cut. I didn't try this method because I had already repaired everything by the time I heard back from them.

I don't use Compressor, so I don't know why you'd be having a problem with that.

For me, Motion 5 continually crashes in Yosemite. I have no plugins installed, just a basic installation directly from the App Store. I have deleted Motion and reinstalled from the App Store with no change. Motion crashes after just a few seconds after opening an existing or creating a new project.

Any info is appreciated. I have projects due and I am stuck.

Acdoll, have you tried clearing the preferences as part of your re-install? Next time you launch Motion, hold down Command+Option and delete the preferences. In the past I've noticed that plug-ins re not the only thing that can cause crashes at start-up. You may want to check for problems with fonts. Launch Font book, select All Fonts and then go to the File menu and choose "Validate Fonts". See if any fonts have errors and resolve them (disable or remove the font).

If those things don't work, it's probably worth posting your crash log in a tread to see if anyone can help determine what the problem is.

Motion 5.1.2 seems a little slow with Yosemite (at least with my Mac Pro - something could be wrong with the system install, even though I tried reinstalling the system a couple of times things are still bad, slow system all over, finder slow.) But Motion 5.1.2 seems a little bit strange on Mavericks too, suddenly the "Publish template" is missing.

Same, updated to Yosemite and now I get the message this version is not supported by Yosemite. Also, version 3 that I use all the time is and will probably never be supported. So sad, for a company that has some innovative hardware and software their constant updating and lack of support for older versions makes me now wonder if I want to continue to buy apple products. You pay a premium for their stuff, one would think they would do a better job. I also may uninstall Yosemite so I can use the software I PAID for...not impressed Apple... Oh, they provide 0 support as well. This forum their techs do not monitor so there will not be any solution posted...just a way to vent.

Must be Motion 5.1.2 to run in Yosemite 10.10.1.

I and many others are running it just fine.

First, trash pref files, as mentioned previously.

Second, get the free app "FCS Remover" from Digital Rebellion (dot com) to fully remove Motion from your system.

Reboot, go the the App Store, to the Purchased tab, and click "Install" for Motion, you'll get the latest version for your OS version.

If those don't work, there's some other issue on your system that is effecting Motion.
