iPod nano 3rd gen will not connect after update to OS X Yosemite

My iPod nano 3rd gen has worked perfectly until now, but after my upgrade to OS X Yosemite, it is not recognized by either the OS or iTunes. The iPod interface on the device remains active and does not indicate that it is connected to a power supply. My iTunes version is 12.0.1.26 and there are no updates available to the OS or to iTunes at this time.

I have tried the following steps repeatedly

-reset the iPod

-restarted the computer

-toggled the Hold button on the iPod

-reset settings on the iPod

-use another USB port

-use another cable (the original cable and port were syncing perfectly with my iPod shuffle)

I am convinced this is a Yosemite problem. It is especially annoying to me that I cannot contact support directly for this issue without a fee, as I am confident this is related to the OS update and not a user error or hardware malfunction issue.

I have the same problem. Not sure it is a Yosemite issue. I can connect to one machine but not the other. Very strange. I have even tried reinstalling the Nano software. If I sent the device to Disk mode then I can mount it on the machine that it will not work with, but iTunes does not see it. If I disable the disk mode then it seams iTunes un-mounts the device after a few seconds. Annoying.
