safari slow on yosemite

Hi,

I got an Macbook Pro retina 15" from 2013.

Got Yosemite running on it since it came out. Until that day, I always used Chrome as Browser. It is incredible fast.

And now people telling how much faster safari is. So I thought, giving it a try.

But my Safari is slow as ****. Here are some examples:

- Youtube videos have problems at the beginning of every Video. Like a second of stop and then it continues.

- Just to open Google, it is loading the page for 2 Seconds. It may sound stupid, but in Chrome a side like google opens immediately. No waiting whatsoever.

And on Safari I see the blue loading bar. I mean, its google!! Not some kind of Big Media Server or something.

- Just to close a tap or open a tap needs one or two seconds.

- Everything I open in safari is Slow. Refreshing Facebook takes seconds. It is kind of building the side pixel by pixel almost. Like in the early days when the Internet was born. 😟

- When I look up something on google it needs 2 Seconds to load and then it shows the results. In chrome it almost comes immediately. No need to wait.

These are just a few examples. This may sound like a "first world problem". But I don`t think, and I hope so, that this isn`t normal.

Chrome is waaaaay faster right now. Is that normal for safari???

I don't have any of these extreme problems. But Safari is definitely a bit slower on my Mavericks and Yosemite machines than on Snow Leopard (the acme of Mac since OS9.2, IMHO).

Anyway, when I open a new page in SL, Google loads in under a second. In Mav or Yos the blue bar shoots about half way along, hesitates for about 1 to 1.5 seconds and then loads. It was like that on the new machines straight out the box before any migration or installation. It was the first thing I noticed.

Horrible. But not quite as horrible as Chrome or Firefox, which I only use for booking airline tickets because the submit buttons don't respond in Safari.

Hi,

I've had the same problem and have tried most of the suggested things including changing my DNS servers, getting rid of the cache and disabling or uninstalling extensions.

Nothing really worked until I did this:

Safari Preference > Extensions > Switch Off by sliding the button to the left. Suddenly everything sped up.

Not sure if it'll work for anyone else and not sure too how long this fix will last. Fingers crossed.

regards,

John
