Delete from Photo Stream?

I've deleted pictures from Camera Roll and Photo Library but there still shows 444 MB in Photo Stream. How can I delete this, and if I do will I lose the photos that are stored in the cloud? I'm trying to make enough room to upgrade to iOS 8.
