Mail: Organize By Conversation - wrong emails

I'm finding in Yosemite Mail that the "Organize By Conversation" view is useless because it is grouping together unrelated emails. I can have two separate threads of email discussion - featuring unconnected contributors - but Mail elects to combine them into a single conversation thread.

How can I stop it doing this?

Another new victim here. Just started the other day and it's getting worse and worse by the hour.

May have started whilst I was working on the laptop whilst on holiday as it seems to relate to items and conversations from around that time. Very odd, perhaps Cornwall (in the UK) is operating from another time dimension?

Going to try the fix that was suggested.

(Not sure if it is anyway related but terrible issues with email invitations not adding to iCal from iMail as well - just off to do another search for solutions)

I believe I have found a workaround of sorts--not a fix, but a way to cope with the mismatch of messages in conversations. For critical conversations I need to keep track off and get rid of all non-related messages, I set up a Smart Mailbox using the email addresses of the addressees that are part of the project. That way, only the messages received from or sent to these people show up in the Smart Mailbox and organizing it by conversation doesn't include any messages that are not related to the conversations.

Like I said, not a fix, but a way to cope with this predicament.

I can't believe that Apple is doing nothing about this after some six months of steady reports about this problem. Heck, I guess they're too busy coming up with lame apps like Photos and killing professional apps like Aperture. Sometimes, I really have to wonder about what they're thinking...

Mh, maybe someone can confirm this but for me this seems to be fixed with the latest update..

I updated my MacBook Air to Yosemite last week and - on my main Computer (still running Mavericks) I switched to Apple Mail some time ago (coming from Thunderbird) because i LOVE that conversation thing, so I set up Mail on my Macbook Air as well (was using Thunderbird here, still) - just to see that everything is messed up (had basically 600 mails in one large conversation etc) - doing research in the www I ended up here.

I was just about to swap back my system image with Mavericks today - because I am not sure if I like Yosemite at all ^^ - then I installed 10.10.3 - well, now it seems to work.. Hate "Fotos" btw... I am an Apperture user...

What I did was deleting the Mail Account yesterday, going back to Thunderbird - so I installed the update without a Mail archive - now i just re-setup an account and as it seems to me mails are grouped correctly now.. Btw - Postbox looks good to me!!

mh, here ist is fine now - still..

Maybe it is a good idea to re-load the emails?

I did nothing fancy, just deleting my email account in the settings - waiting a little, closing Mail, reopening it - everything is empty now - then setting up my mail login again... it takes a while till all that imap stuff is re-downloaded again... but after a few minutes I was able to see all the inbox emails and there was no mess anymore - I waited 2 hours till all 20.000 mails were downloaded - then I closed / reopened Mail a couple of times just to check.. seems fine now!

Yes. Same for me (still not working on 10.10.3). I had such hopes for the new release. Instead, even more unrelated emails with unrelated subjects and persons wrapping up into bigger conglomerates.

As a Mac user, I never thought I'd throw in the hat, but this evening I studied other email options; I'm now trialling Postbox. So far, so good. It imported all the emails, and broke the threaded email congloms into their correct threads.

Will see how I'm doing with the new program—and this problem in Mail—when the free trial period is up. One of those times when I wish Apple would at least acknowledge whether they were aware of/trying to address the problem.

And I'm yet another new victim - just started happening to me today. I've been on Yosemite for some weeks, so it's not the Yosemite upgrade that causes it.

I've just done a Mailbox -> Rebuild to see if that has any effect (I know several people have said it doesn't, but I thought I'd try). So far (it's still loading the emails) it seems to have successfully unscrambled the thread with 50 messages from three unrelated conversations.
