Why can't I send email on my iPad using GoDaddy secureserver?

Hi -

I recently noticed while using Apple Mail on my iPad Air (iOS 8.0) that I had 6 unsent messages. Sure enough - I was not able to send email using the iPad. (I don't have this issue on my MBPro - Yosemite.)

No matter what I did I could not solve this so I went to an Apple Store an sat with a Genius. He spent a good hour with me going through every step to link me up with my GoDaddy SMTP secureserver with no success. He eventually told me that his supervisor (or more experienced Genius) had found many instances like this where GoDaddy customers were losing the ability to send mail and that I should call GoDaddy.

Without leaving the store I did just that and, after another lengthy troubleshooting session, the GoDaddy tech arrived at the conclusion that Apple had changed the ports on Mail to something GoDaddy was not made aware of.

Now guys (I'm addressing Apple and GoDaddy) - I don't know what the beef is between you two and I don't care. FIX IT!

Can anyone help me get this working again. Is there a link to the latest procedure that might have been missed by Geniuses and GoDaddys alike. Why can't I send email from my iPad if I'm a GoDaddy customer?

iPad 2, iOS 7.1.2, iPad Air

I can't imagine why they can't solve your email issues but the "blame game" is certainly frustrating so I'll try to assist.

First, please go to your GoDaddy email settings on your iPad and post the settings that you are currently using for the incoming and outgoing servers for GoDaddy (i.e. "secureserver"). In particular, we need to know if you are using POP email or IMAP email. If your are using POP email then you need to be careful in how you proceed or you could loose your old emails. If you are using IMAP then please continue.

A Google search reveals that the settings should be the following if you are using IMAP:

https://support.godaddy.com/help/article/4714/setting-up-your-email-address-with -imap

Note that the settings that they list include those that do not use SSL. In the opinion of any sane person, you should never use an email system that doesn't use SSL (or TLS) in 2014. Therefore, it appears that your outgoing (SMTP) server for GoDaddy should likely be set to "smtpout.secureserver.net" using the standard port for outgoing email using SSL of "465".

If your settings match that, and still do not wok, then I would suggest that you remove your GoDaddy account completely from your iPad, reboot the iPad, and then add it back using the following settings:

Account type: IMAP

Incoming server: imap.secureserver.net

Incoming port: 993

Outgoing server: smtpout.secureserver.net

Outgoing port: 465

Note that it's important that you not try to correct or reconfigure the existing account, but instead you delete the account from iOS and then set it back up from scratch. This solves most email account problems on iOS including those where messages are stuck in the Outbox and are preventing other mail from being sent.

Thanks for the response.

The information you provide are the same settings that both the Genius and the GoDaddy support tech used. When I started over again - as you instructed - I did not get to the screen for setting the IMAP Port # and I was getting an errors like: "this account won't send or receive mail" and "either the username or password is not recognized". Knowing that I had the correct info I powered down (the one step I never heard before) but there was no change. The account is still not working at all.

All of the information I entered is correct except that I was not able to find the place to see or change the Outgoing port #.

Also - a VERY dumb question. The very first field under Account/IMAP account information is "Name". Is that the casual name I am giving the account like "Joe's email" or is it my formal first and last name?

Thanks again.

I did a bit of searching and found the following GoDaddy support document that is specific to troubleshooting the setup of Apple Mail with GoDaddy servers:

https://support.godaddy.com/help/article/9319/troubleshooting-apple-mail-setup

Maybe there is something in there that is the key to solving your issue. Without having a GoDaddy email account or using Apple Mail myself, I feel that I have no way to help further. I wish you the best in solving your problem with this account. If you do find the solution, please post it back here so others can benefit.

I Have also been having this same problem...I'm almost ready to give up my iPads because of it. I run a business through godaddy and have used many apple products seemlessly for decades and now all of a sudden in the past two years I find myself very frustrated with unresolvable problems like this. I would love to know if you have found a solution. I really need my godaddy email to work on my iPads! So far the blame game is all I get from both companies.

SOLVED! I read someplace else that this could be a router problem and indeed it was for me! We got a new router from verizon which had 'grabbed' my iPads off of the apple router. Apparently verizon doesn't play nice with apple products. As soon as I switched my wifi back to the apple network i could send email again! Good luck. I hope you find your fix as well.

I was unable to send IMAP email using our new Godaddy domain. Both iPhone 6 Plus and MacBook Air via Apple Mail.

Providers? AT&T Wireless and Comcast Cable Modem

Here's the quick fix.....

1. Reset your email password to start fresh https://login.secureserver.net/?app=wbe

2. Then, turn off SSL (Outgoing Server) and use Port 80

I repeat TURN OFF SSL FOR OUTGOING SERVER - none of us were able to send emails with SSL turned on with Godaddy's Port #s

Works like a charm now! after 3 hours of tech support with Apple and Godaddy experts
