I've been using ear buds for years, but thought it might be high time to graduate to a pair of Bluetooth headphones. Two quick questions:
1) how does one turn the internal speaker on and off once they are paired with Bluetooth headphones?
2) are there some popular models, say under $100US that work well with the iPad?

Re internal speakers, if they are turned off automatically, how do I turn them back on if I want others to listen to something? Do I have to un-pair the BT headphones every time ?
Re type, I was thinking on-ear or over the ear...and something that was easy to keep charged, ie perhaps the type that charges on a cradle that sits on a table - I typically use the iPad when on a couch in the den...while the family watches TV 🙂
While you are playing something, you will see the airplay logo in the control area.
Press it and it shows you the options- the headphones should have a checkmark near them, select iPad.
You can use Jonathan's option or when you turn off the BT headphones it will return to the iPad speaker. You should not have to pair each time if BT on the iPad is on and you turn on the headphones they will auto connect. An exception to his is if you use the headphone with multiple devices, it will connect to the device with the strongest BT signal. You will have to turn off BT on the devices you do not want to connect with.
JBL has some on ear BT headphones at Best Buy that are right at your price point that are decent sounding. To get good sounding ones you will need to go significantly above that price.
I assume the JBL unit above is the JBL J56BT . They dont have them at the Canadian Best Buys, but I can order from B&H Photo at the same price plus small amount for duty. Nice choice.
Also see a lot of Bluedio HT on eBay and Amazon at the throwaway price of $30 with surprisingly consistent and positive reviews. As I will likely end up with more than one pair, this one is the the running as well.
Are the JBL ( Bluetooth 3.0) and Bluedio (Bluetooth 4.1) are both downward compatible with my iPad2 (which I think is Bluetooth 2.1) ???

Thanks for all the good info. I think I'll start with the Bluedio (to replace my ear buds) and figure out what I like and dont like about Bluetooth headphones. There are enough devices in the house that can use headphones, so over time I can upgrade and redeploy as needed.
