Lag in Typing in Yosemite's Mail w/ External Apple Keyboard

Since upgrading to Yosemite I have been having a very annoying problem with delayed typing response in Mail when I have my external USB Apple keyboard (current model with numeric pad). It is a sporadic issue. Typing will be responsive, then there are 2-4 second delays in response. I have only witnessed the issue with Mail and when using the external keyboard. Problem does not occur in other programs or when using my MacBook Pro's built in keyboard. Nor did the problem exist prior to upgrading to Yosemite.

My equipment is a late 2013 MacBook Pro Retina. When on my desk, I have it connected to a 23" Apple Display (original LCD), USB Apple Keyboard, Logitech cordless Trackman, and a Drobo firewire external drive.

Has anyone else witnessed this issue? Or have an suggestions on correcting?

Thank you in advance!

OK, but for me this is the only consistent bug I've seen in Yosemite, and I've been using it since July. I now have it installed on four Macs I help with. It's in daily use on three of those, getting work done. I've used Macs since 1988, and I think Yosemite is at least as good as any version I've ever used.

Most complaints I've read about Yosemite are sort of, like, 1: Apple added some functions from iOS (OMG!). 2: "I hate the flat look" or 3: "It's a mess." (No specific complaints.)

I'm sure there are some legitimate problems with certain software/hardware combinations, just not ones I happen to use. I'm not criticizing anyone who has a specific, verifiable problem that can legitimately be blamed on Yosemite. If you're one of those, please contact Apple.

Here's what the author of the article you linked to says about his own short rant:

I looked back at what I wrote with regret, guilt, and embarrassment.

Yes - saw that article just last night. I also have painfully agree. The downgrades to Numbers and Pages have been amazing in particular. Now I'm feeling like Outlook is outpacing Mail and Calendar, that Lightroom long ago outpaced (and now killed) Aperture, and that Excel and Word are progressing in ways that iWork is not.

I'm not abandoning any of these apps yet, because I know that the other side of the fence has it's own thistles hidden in the green grass. But I am missing that feeling of "Just Works" superiority I used to have.

funny, too, if you were to go back and look at any mac forum after any OS release; lots of complaints, issues. lots of 'why did they change this'. and the funniest part...six months in, people start clamoring for change: "where's the new stuff?" "cmon apple, give us some new features" etc. then, when the next OS hits, you've got people trying to get the 'old' features back, and the complaints start again. it's an endless cycle (and at least, entertaining)...

All right, I have a new wrinkle besides the lag, which incidentally seems to be getting worse: on my 2011 11" MacBook Air, which started exhibiting the lag right away after the Yosemite upgrade, now sometimes when I hit the space bar, the cursor leaps BACK a space! Possibly lag-related, but man, does this ever make it impossible to make a correction. It's like the whole darn app is coming apart at the seams. Disgusting, is what it is.

I don't understand why there isn't a bigger hue and cry about this on the Internet or Mac websites. It's totally awful and absurd.
