I have the same problem using a brand new Mac Mini equipped with Yosemite 10.10. The Mail application refuse to connect to my TX service provider Videotron the largest in Quebec. Videotron is blaming APPLE for this serious problem saying MAIL was operating properly using 10.09 Maverick. After hours of testing at my Apple store, they still blaming each other about this serious malfunction. Finally since no body is taking the blame, i had to return this new computer after seven days of discussion with both companies involved with this unconnect situation. I am using Mail on my old G5 power pc without any problem. The same server is also used with MAIL in my IPAD and my portable 13in Apple without difficulties. The purchase of this new Mini Mac was for my 10 years old Power Pc replacement. If they fix that problem rapidly, I will have to switch to PC in order to get security protection for my data which is no longer available with G5 Motorola processer since all recent units run on Intel. But it is the way it is at this time, people concerned are not taking each other at this present time and who knows if they ever will. Regards

Hello,

i fixed problem like that ,

1- Remove all accounts (example : alex@domain.com or maria@domain.com)

2- Re-Setup mails

3- After go that area, (and UNCHECK that tick)

User uploaded file

4- after go that area (and UNCHECK that tick)

User uploaded file

5- Now you can take mails but , you can not sending , after,

Open up Finder

In the Finder menu bar select Go > Go to folder

type in ~/Library and click Go (on my kb the "~" is next to the left shift key)

Open the folder Mail

Open the folder V2

Open the folder MailData

Double click to open Accounts.plist (should open in TextEdit)

Find the block of data that contains the offending mail account

Find the line within this block that says <key>UserAllowsInsecureAuthentication</key>

Change the line below this from <false/> to <true/>

Quit TextEdit

Restart mail

OS X yosemite , automatic add <FALSE/> tag , if still ur mail don't send mails , look again that line

<key>UserAllowsInsecureAuthentication</key>

<false/>you must AGAIN change it to TRUE.

i hope u can fix this problem also.

Just like to add my voice to this. Mail was working fine with Yosemite until a couple of days ago and all of a sudden the occasional "couldn't send email" warning has become much more frequent. it's also claiming to not sending a mail that was definitely sent as the person responded to it.

Was tempted to delete accounts and reset up but thanks to legion 3000 I know that's a temporary solution.

I also have webpages not loading or actions that are hanging in Safari. i'm not so down on Apple though. It's my fault to install a new OS without waiting for at least the first update.

On the other hand, if it wasn't for people like us they wouldn't know what to update. Curious though that these problems weren't apparent in the beta testing.

I found a workaround (Mail>Preferences>Advanced -check the box "allow insecure authentication" which worked for me. HOWEVER, since the Yosemite update 10.10.1, I have NOT had a problem with Mail at all. I believe when you do the update the "allow insecure authentication" box is "un checked" by the update.

Despite this problem I have found Yosemite to be the best OS for my MacBook to date, but I like the continuity of style with my iPhone & iPad.

I'm having similar problems. I have 3 email accounts and all are failing to connect SMTP and sometimes IMAP. I tried a couple other mail programs Postbox and Airmail and they all connect automatically and work perfectly. However some of the junk mail setting are not as good as Mac Mail. I tried the same settings that Postbox and Airmail used (Both were the same) on Mac Mail ... IT DID NOT WORK. What is wrong with Apple to make connection so painful when a couple of competitors can blow them out of the water. I like Mac Mail and would like to get it back, but it has to work and be stable first.. Hello Apple are you listening ? FIX and simplify Mac Mail

Thanks for posting that. i am still waiting. I have not upgraded and I am not going to because of all this. I Have a roadrunner email account and although I have tried to get away from it, I have it. Time Warner is my cable carrier and I know there have been issues with TW and the new upgrade. I agree, Apple should have had all this worked out long before they released the upgrade.
