Yosemite users with Scan Snap -watch out!

Scan Snap users take note!

I've got a mid 2013 MacBook Air (MBA) that was running Mavericks fine. I placed the Yosemite installer onto the MBA by copying the downloaded installer from an iMac onto a USB stick -note I did not create a boot usb etc., this was just a straight copy. I ran the Yosemite installer on the MBA and all seemed to be fine after about three hours of work.

Next, the Fujitsu Scan Snap auto update kicked in and this is where all **** broke lose. The active front window of the installer would constantly blink on and off preventing me from completing its update, but then I realized that the entire system was doing this now, every finder window and every window of all apps. open. I managed to get the installer to run and update the scan snap software ( I think) but now my MBA is in this constant window blinking mode as if one is selecting and then de-selecting the active front window. Reboot / restart did not help. I also noticed that upon reboot / restart I get the black apple boot screen with the apple logo and the progress scroll bar across the bottom-something similar to iOS update and nothing I've seen before on the mac.

Booting into safe mode results in the problem going away, so it looks like I've got to copy my Mavericks back up back to this beast and start over.

It happened to me, too, on two MacBook Pros with Retina Display 15" (mid-2012), running System 10.10. The first was problematic enough, since the aforementioned cycling continued, even in the Finder with the ScanSnap installer gone. I finally just restarted and the problem ended. I repaired permissions as well.

The second computer did not have the scanner connected and so one of the installers kept asking to identify the scanner. The installer became stuck in a loop such that the installer window would not go away. I finally was able to get the system restart window to appear and I restarted the computer. After restart, the problem disappeared. I also repaired permissions for good measure.

Thus far, there have been no recurring problems on either computer. However, this update did not reflect careful testing by Fujitsu and I suspect it is causing quite a bit of consternation to many users.

If you continue to have problems, perhaps you could restart more than once, into safe mode, if necessary.

I was just about to buy additional ScanSnap units for my team at the office. Now, I'm going to watch to see how responsive the company is first.

Good luck.

You make some good points that I failed to mention as well. My scan snap ix500 was not attached to the MBA when this occurred. After my last post here, I unplugged my external monitor and booted once more into safe mode and removed the Scansnap manager from my startup items and rebooted again and the problem seems to have stopped. There definitely seems to be an issue with their auto-updater.

Oddly enough, I have an iMac at another location running Yosemite that is always connected to an older model scan snap (the one prior to the ix500) and none have this has happened on that iMac. Hope Fujitsu clears this up soon.

I had similar problems with my ix500 and after two hours of struggling I was able to make it work:

- Download the most updated ScanSnap Manager version 6.3 L27 (as of today, June 21, 2015)

- After downloading, it will ask to update the firmware of ix500- this is the crucial to make the scanner work with Yosemite.

- Download AutoOnlineUpdater. After download, run the updater to make sure that ScanSnap Manager is up to date.

That is it.

Note: First few times of my trying, the firmware updater didn't work, so I had to use another computer with OS X Lion to update the firmware.
